The podcast currently has 46 episodes available.
Meet our guest on today’s Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast – Billy Schwer – long time friend, former world boxing champion and now author, international speaker, entrepreneur and advocate for mental health and wellness.
We first met Billy during our years as management consultants before we became online entrepreneurs and remember it well as he had Susan learning how to box🥊
Friendships are forever and we can truly say that about Billy
Let’s say that today’s podcast is both entertaining and inspirational and we hope will think about your life after 50, retirement and what’s possible…
How he’s taken his experiences in the ring and in life and is now helping people with their mental health
He’s a former boxing world champion, he’s headlined at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, The Royal Albert Hall London where at 23 he won the British and Commonwealth Titles and at finally at his fourth attempt to become World Champion claimed the coveted title
But as he says life doesn’t always go according to plan does it?
And in defending his title and getting badly injured he made the toughest decision of his career
Life as a boxer was over!
He was going to retire
But as he shares, life changing decisions are tough but then life is very very short too and he shares how the transition from ‘Billy the Boxer‘ to life in the real world after ‘retirement’ he found very difficult
He struggled with his mental health and depression coping with bankrupcy and losing everything he had worked for… even having suicidal thoughts and admits it took him 15 years to sort himself out
But he did
And he now volunteers for The Samaritans because having had suicidal thoughts he really understands the conversation going on in the heads of those desparate enough to call in for help
“The words ‘Mental’ & ‘Boxing’ came together on a very stressful afternoon when I was in the midst of a depressive episode.
I knew others were suffering like me and I wanted to find an answer, a solution for all of us.
How could I win the mental boxing match that I was having with the voice in my head? It was giving me a good hiding and beating the shit out of me.
Having been a fighter – a winner – all my life (I’m a former world boxing champion, just in case you didn’t know), I was used to fighting, but this fight that I was having was a different kind of fight altogether and one that I was losing, badly. I was getting close to being knocked out… for good.
Since those dark days (the lost years) I’ve been on a journey of discovery about what it takes to win this fight, to win at this thing called life – and I’m really happy to say I’ve figured something out and I’m happier, more fulfilled and satisfied with my life now than ever before.
I want you punching above your weight, winning more often, experiencing more success and looking great while you’re at it”
The stresses people are subject to today are almost unimaginable in a modern world where they shouldn’t exist
How could Billy the champion in the ring be Billy who failed in life?
This is the kind of question many of us are asking as we get towards retirement when our careers are ended and “what next”
Not failure per se as Billy explains but what happens when we reach that momentous day when we’re presented with our long service reward (usually a clock as in our parents or grandparents day)
What will we do?
Will we still want to work in some capacity or maybe give our time to a good cause or charity as Billy
Just remember as you read this you have knowledge and life experiences that could well be what someone is waiting for
That’s why this podcast and blog is all about helping you reach your full potential when that time comes
Thanks for watching / listening or reading and hope Billy’s story has given you a glimmer of hope for what comes next…
Because we have many more years of life and much to do once we’ve escaped the 9-5!
We love these inspiring words from Billy and hope you will too

Meet our friend Hui Hui Lek from Singapore who became a very special friend during the Pandemic when our lives and businesses had been curtailed overnight. Life virtually became our new everday and social media became our lifeline.
We were both taking part in a virtual challenge with the iconic Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi with a focus on using our skills, talents and passions into a business
Hui Hui had lost her retail business overnight as her business relied on importing from China and all borders were closed and she was unable to fulfil orders
It was a pretty stressful and challenging time but as we know from personal experience sometimes it’s those challenges and obstacles that become a springboard to something new and exciting
Tune in and listen to her story as she takes you through what happened next
It’s truly inspiring and proof that with the right mindset, belief and mentorship anything is possible
We hope that you picked up from her story that when she began her online business she had zero influence and zero audience but what she did have in bucket loads was courage and using a skill she had mastered from the past in illustration
After every training she put together what she learned into picture form and shared it with people for free never realising that as she did so she was creating an audience…
An audience that has since helped propel her into an amazing business and life
We feel very honoured to have met her during the covid years and she gave us inspiration and the motivation to carry on when things looked bleak for us…
And likewise inspired by the BIG MAN himslef
3 Things Tony Robbins Said That Changed Her Life
If you’ve ever been in a position where you were challenged and thought you couldn’t do something or that someone left you feeling you were not good enough or wouldn’t be able to do something let us share what happened to Hui Hui (remember she told us her name made Tony Robbins happy 😀) how the words of Tony Robbins gave her strength and courage to keep going even though she had never met him until this year. We can totally resonate with that and we were lucky enough to meet him many years ago
She say “he switches my mindset every time I’ve had a huge setback in business.”
A 6-figure coach told her she wouldn’t make it and was in a state of depression, Tony’s voice ring in her ears, “I can’t therefore I must!”
When she was in a daze the second day after she started her coaching business and got a call that her Dad was very sick and hospitalised but she remembered Tony’s words, “Things are happening FOR you, not to you.”
It gave her the courage and strength to continue…
And made her think what must she do so that it’s happening for me? That incident became her biggest motivation to succeed as a coach. Sprinting from zero to 2MM in 2 years.
She then I had a meltdown in her 3rd month stumbling over speaking coherently in English even after lots of practice. She recalled Tony’ voice saying, “Believe it will be worth it in the end.”
At that time, she hadn’t even met Tony in person and he already had had a huge influence on her
We truly hope that hearing her story and the challenges she overcame from losing everything she and her partner had worked for to where she is today actually meeting Tony Robbins and sharing her story with him…
That you too will be motivated to put aside all those little voices in your head that Chris calls “fruit salad“
And make the leap into the unknown and make a life and an income for yourself that you truly deserve
You can read the rest of her story as it unfolds on her social media below and we hope we will meet you in this year’s free challenge called “The Game Has Changed“
We’ll be there alongside Hui Hui and thousands of others ready to make a change in their life
We’ll leave you with a favourite quote from Hui Hui “Failures Are The Stepping Stones To Success”

Join us with our guest Jo Barnes on Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast as we talk about how running an online business has changed over the 13 years we’ve all been online and how easy it is today to make money online in so many different ways and fulfilling a life without limits…
How anything from $500 a month to $2000 can make all the difference to someone’s quality of life
A bit of backstory
We and Jo started in 2010 post the recession of 2008 when the internet was in it’s infancy with no fancy tools like we have today yet we faced the fear and did it. We neither of us knew if it would work but somehow we just knew it would and we had to try.
For Jo it all began one day when feeling stuck and miserable they agreed to house sit for a friend in Cyprus who was involved in something called “internet marketing”
With no income and not a lot of savings, they knew they had to start earning fast and this is her story
Fast forward to 2013, Jo has been location independent running a 6 figure online businesses for well over a decade now just as we have… her husband too! Their daughter was 4 when they packed up everything and moved to Cyprus and finally arrived in Phuket in Thailand (they’ve lived and travelled to 40 countries!) where they settled so she could get through her higher education years but today they’re ready to get the backpacks out again
We talked about reaching 50 – that all important milestone in our lives (we started our online business in our mid 50’s) and about “unretirement” – that time when you want to get the absolute best out of the second half of life.
How it’s very possible to grow a location independent lifestyle business doing something you love that gives you the freedom to work and live anywhere in the world.
And it needn’t be complicated…
Nor does everyone want to be a multi-millionaire even…
They just want to be comfortable and not have to worry about money and be able to do the things they dreamed of doing
As Jo says, most people can quite easily start a side hustle today and generate some money selling stuff they don’t want for example
It’s one of the things Gary Vaynerchuk talks about in his videos too
It’s a start and then the thought of other ways of making money kicks in
Building a lifestyle business isn’t just about breaking financial barriers, it’s about designing a life that literally makes you leap out of bed each morning.
And, as Gen X or Baby Boomers, our age isn’t a barrier; it’s a goldmine of wisdom and experience that gives our lifestyle businesses their unique edge
Talking “unretirement”…
And just for fun, Jo shares the famous “unretirement” video of Tom Brady and his NFL friends going back on the pitch – it’s very funny 🤣🤣🤣 but it does make the point.
We’ve got years left in us so let’s make the most of it!
She says that now it’s her mission to share her experiences and help others build their own lifestyle business that gives them the freedom to live and work from anywhere in the world whether that be your kitchen table or a beach in Fiji
She believes (just as we do) that a lifestyle business is your chance to become a master of your own destiny and to generate an income that funds your ideal lifestyle whatever that is to you
For anyone wanting to spend the rest of their life and not working in the traditional way (aka for someone else) she’s just launched a brand new course The Solopreneur Success Formula
We’ve been through it and know you will enjoy her relaxed style of training and it will get you on the road to creating that lifestyle business you’ve been listening to us both share
If there’s one thing we’ve both learnt over the years if you want to do something learn from someone who has already done what you want to do
We hope that you will be inspired to face the fear and get out of your comfort zone and have a great second half of life
In Jo’s words “be willing to be a bad artist to begin” (we all are)

In this episode of Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast we talk with medical doctor Luz Marten and hear how a patient at his practice who he was unable to help with traditional medication led him and his wife into the world of holistic medicine and network marketing.
You will definitely want to listen to his story and hear some of the challenges he faced on the journey including having to forfeit his medical practice in favour of his belief in natural solutions.
How we should all be free to make better choices in life that we believe in.
His career began as a paramedic and later became an anaethetist but after burnout and suffering depression took the decision to re-qualify as a medical doctor proof having realised that money isn’t everything! For a period of time life became much better for him and his wife and he was happy with his lifestyle but yet there was a desire to do and be more…
Then one day a patient changed everything for him and his wife.
He had been unable to help her with traditional medicine then one day she turned up at his practice and shared with him how she had treated herself holistically and she wanted to share with him her story.
That story changed his life and his career
He tried the products for himself and many of the afflictions he had went away and he just knew he had to share this with those who needed to find solutions
He knew nothing about the world of network marketing that his patient had introduced him to just loved that these products worked and wanted to tell everyone about them
What happened next is all too familiar in today’s world unfortunately but there is a happy ending
Lutz and his wife now have the means to help people who traditional medicine has not helped and the results as we know too well ourselves are becoming more accepted
They have created a business they love and they continue to serve people who have health challenges but in a different way
As Lutz says, change is never easy but it’s definitely possible if you are open to doing things differently
We have many years ahead of us and be healthy enough to enjoy those years
Lutz’s tips to starting a side hustle or trying something new :
Sometimes there are opportunities you don’t even know about – just be open to what is there for you
Thank you for joining us and listening to our chat with Lutz Marten and hope his story inspires you to think about your own life and what may lie ahead for you
You can find him on Facebook : Lutz Marten
We look forward to seeing you on the next Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast
In today’s Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast we catch up with Adil Amarsi who has created himself a business through his love of copywriting learned from an early age writing stories for his Dad’s business and has gone on to write copy amassing over a billion dollars in revenue for his clients (and he’s only 33!)
We first met him after attending an internet marketing event some 10 years ago and listened to him share his passion for copywriting over cocktails in the bar (some of the best moments and friendships are meeting people at events over coffee or in the bar 😂). We didn’t really know what that was back then!
Social media allows us to keep in touch and after chatting recently about a course he’s just created we wanted to introduce him to you and for you to hear how you can turn a skill, knowledge (or hobby) that you are insanely passionate about into a business that generates you a full or part time income.
Knowledge is in huge demand as people want to know how to do things and you could be harbouring the secret (you’ll hear him share an example of a plumber friend)!
Join us for the conversation and hear his story and make sure to stay to the end as he has a fabulous tip for you for starting your very first or next income stream…
There were so many golden nuggets inside this interview and hope you took notes – we’ve added captions so you can grab those that might help you in considering your next steps or which you can use as you think about starting or pursue your online career.
Getting a mentor or finding someone who has done what you want to do is a key takeaway and one we absolutely endorse – without finding a mentor we would not be doing what we are today!
The internet is not just for young things as we’ve proved beyond a doubt (and why we created this podcast and blog) and when you consider the skills, talents and experience those reaching their fifties and beyond hold there’s a whole new world of entrepreneurship opening up for them.
Think about some of the most successful businesses around today. Chances are, those that came to mind have – or are founded on – strong, simple and easy to understand concepts as Adil mentions referring to Leonardo da Vinci
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
Skipping to the end of the interview we loved Adil’s idea of searching Faceless You Tube Channels and found you a blog so you can check that out for yourself. We’ll definitely be following up on the travel idea and it’s got us thinking of other industries too…
If you are looking at Adil’s copywriting we recommend you start here – GreatestCopywriterAlive.com We love the way he writes and if you have ever opened your email account and wished you had someone write like they knew you then you will love ❤️this. That’s definitely how we want people to feel when they open our emails

In this episode of the Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast we have as our guest Greg Aler author of Fire Your Financial Advisor and advocate for change in the world of financial services as it relates to retirement in America today.
Greg has a fascinating background as you’ll hear during our chat but it really does put him in a position to share what he knows about the industry and how retirees can fight back (and not just in America).
Told though metaphors and recognizable events Greg shares the story inside his book of how the financial industry created a trillion-dollar empire by withholding information while over-charging and under-servicing retirees regarding the real risks of retirement.
It was a very entertaining chat and we think you will see from the fact that despite being the CEO of 3 very successful companies he prefers a more relaxed look and can see why his clients would like him.
We especially loved his idea that all retirees should have money set aside for fun, travel, hobbies or anything that they enjoy.
With staggering numbers of Americans living far longer than ever before (and no different to any other developed nation) our retirement savings need to go a lot further and take into account long term health care as well as investments and life savings.
As we said above, what we liked best was when he said he encourages his clients to set aside money for their fun time as everyone in their retirement needs to enjoy this time of their life and not just be saving for the future.
Greg has definitely stirred up a hornets nest but in a good way and highlighted the reason that the advice that your financial advisor might have given you to get to the top of “Retirement Mountain” probably won’t help get you down. That is what most retirees miss – until it’s too late… but no more!
We hope you enjoyed the show as much as we did and you maybe go ask the question of your financial advisor 😀
To find out more about Greg you can listen in to his podcast or tune in to his TV show – both known as Expedition Retirement. We’re sure you’re going to enjoy getting to know him and how he operates his business

In this edition of the Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast we interview Fazal Ullah as he shares how a chance meeting in 2007 changed his life. It’s especially poignant as that meeting was with us and we finally got to catch up with him and ask him to share his story and what happened next…
It’s not an unusual story as you’ve heard (many people we speak to what to quit the 9-5) but what was different is that Faz was so fed up with the 9-5 rat race and not seeing his kids growing up he made it happen. His family was the thing that provided him with his REASON WHY to make the change.
A change that has led him to a better life and creating a way to help others who want a better life too just as we have done.
Just imagine as he said if the stars had not aligned on that day – 5 seconds either way and life would have been a very different story
BELIEF
We asked him next about belief
“So you must have had a heck of a lot of belief in yourself, a lot of self-belief to go to that exhibition, learn some things, and then on the Monday morning give up your regular income effectively“
We asked him how he could do that and he said it was having a huge belief what he was doing and a huge REASON WHY as we’ve said earlier. To build a future for his family, to create a legacy and to create passive income.
MINDSET
Next we asked Faz about mindset and how he approached all of this because this is a big breakaway from what he was familiar with. Here’s what he said:
CHALLENGES, CONNECTIONS & NETWORKING
If you have ever had any doubt about the power of challenges, networking and making connections we hope that Faz’s story of how he overcame his challenges, the people he met and those who helped him reach his goals will give you the encouragement you need to face your fears and step over the line.
Today Faz has authored books on property, has his own company and mentorship program designed for people looking to do what he’s done and all because of a chance meeting he could have missed by 5 seconds!
We asked him for his final words of encouragement and were not surprised to hear him say
“Whatever the mind can conceive, it can achieve”
And the image from his Facebook just says it all!
Faz is a truly humble man and shows much gratitude for the opportunities hard work and connections has given him. We wish him much future success in the world of property.
We chose our own favourite from his social media
“Today is your opportunity to build the tomorrow you actually want.”
It’s a journey worth taking and a goal worth fighting for.
We only live once, and if you’re up for it. Let’s see what you’re capable of in the business world. Design your ideal life…”

Thanks for joining us for How A Chance Meeting Change My Life
In this edition of Living The Retirement podcast we talk to our good friend and award winning business coach Kylie Anderson. Originally from Australia and now living and working in the UK, we first met her over a decade ago when she entered the world of online entrepreneurship. We knew she had that spark in her and she’s proved us right reaching that milestone birthday (she just turned 50) and running a very successful thriving coaching business
But we’ll let Kylie share her story and hope you will be inspired to move out of your comfort zone and know that there is more to life than sticking with what you’ve always done and were good at for fear of what lies beyond!
We so loved that moment where Kylie says her boss came into the office bragging about his travel card and she realised he was still coming into the office in his retirement… one of those pivitol moments that made her know for certain it was her time to do something about building her own business to give her the flexibility to travel and start living a life not centred around work!
We remembered her coming to an event we had organised showing people how they could start an online business and was in the front row taking notes and smiling like the proverbial cheshire cat.
Kylie shares how she was experimenting with different ways to make money online (which is what most people do to be honest) , found what didn’t work and how not everyone can be trusted but she didn’t ever give up on her dreams and goals
She knew that honing her skills would help her reach them and it would take a little time to “find her thing” as she describes it
She knew that overnight success and ‘getting rich quick’ was a fallacy and an investment into personal development was extremely important
Which all led to her thinking about the ‘missing link‘ as she refers to it. She was an avid consumer of training but wasn’t earning from all that knowledge! How could she change that and provide a service which would bridge the gap for people creating all this training, writing books, producing courses and bring the those all important clients?
And a business was born – one that began by helping small businesses get a better presence online and collect those all important leads and learn how to communicate and nurture those those leads until some became their customers or clients.
Her next realisation was that there were a lot of successful women making incredible amounts of money using the internet and conversely many were living paycheck to paycheck and had little or no plan for their retirement.
Another seed was sown!
She shared with us how on a recent economic forum she learnt that something like 60% of the wealth in the UK is going to be owned by women by 2025. It’s a massive market and spotting an opportunity that’s where her focus is today, championing women entrepreneurs. Plus finding ways to grow faster without so much effort and time and harnessing other ways to generate legacy wealth, all of which she can include inside her coaching business.
This led to the birth of Iconic Wealth For Women and the focus of her business today.
With over 7 years solid business experience, followed by 3 years running an online coaching business. She’s uniquely positioned with REAL business experience to help her clients leverage their knowledge, develop additional income streams and help them on a journey towards more freedom and more income.
Don’t stay set in your ways as you get older. The internet is here to stay and there’s so many things you could do with a little help and guidance. If you haven’t made plans for your retirement it’s not too late – get some advice and get started now – every little helps!
And her motto
“work less and earn more, whilst making an impact and changing other peoples lives”
If you want to follow Kylie you can connect with her on her favourite social media platform and website
Website
We hope you’ve enjoyed listening to Kylie and her plans for the future. We think she’s got her retirement nailed and hope that you got some ideas from it for your own path and that if you need to you that you find ways to add some extra income to give you the retirement you hoped for.
Maybe It’s About Time is the title of a book written by our guest Neil Boss on this edition of Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast. Neil is a retired partner of Deloitte LLP one of “The Big Four” Accountancy and Management Consultancy firms in London and we were intrigued to know the story behind his book and whether it was something he had always wanted to do…
You’ll hear his answer when you tune into our chat because like you, we were intrigued to know why now and why the story line he chose but as you will hear him say “it was always a plan to write a book in his retirement”
We’ll circle back to that…
Set in the early months of 2020 Maybe It’s About Time is a story about the difficulty of changing life for the better. The central characters are Marcus and Claire and how a chance encounter through a mutual friend, Gavin leads to an unlikely friendship all the while the early months of the pandemic were unfolding. We had to ask Neil whether Marcus was actually him but he assures us the character was totally fictional albeit he draws on his experience of what he describes as the egocentric world of professional service.
Whilst full of humour, the story ultimately delivers a serious message about remaining true to our personal values and changing lives for the better.
We began reading Maybe It’s About Time on a transatlantic flight to Salt Lake City just recently. It was a large book to take on board but Susan was quickly engrossed (and the crew were intrigued to know was it a good book lol). I (Chris) get to read it next beacuse that’s how we work together lol 😂!
We asked Neil if he ever saw his book becoming a movie. We had to laugh when he said he was no J K Rowling or a Harry Potter wizard but seriously if the right person reads his book we’re sure it would make a great screenplay.
After all the pandemic years will be something that will be talked about for a very long time and we reckon his satirical look at those times would be a hit!
If you’re intrigued we highly recommend you pick up and read It’s About Time and connect with Neil if you have any questions (detail on his website below)
You’ll find him on Twitter @iamneilboss and on LinkenIn he’s @NeilBoss
His website is NeilBossAuthor.co.uk
We don’t know about you but we hope there’s a sequel or two in the pipeline and if future books are anything like his first there’s definitely important messages the world needs to hear
Thanks for joining us on today’s podcast and look forward to seeing you next time…
Could you write a book?
Tune it for a future podcast to find out
It will all make perfect sense when you hear from Peter Barker our guest on this episode of Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast. Peter is Operations Director of Wildgoose Events, an award winning, multi-million pound global events and licensing business but he’s no stranger to facing up to challenges as you’ll hear
It’s no surprise then that Peter is someone who thinks outside the box when faced with difficulties and the pandemic couldn’t have been a worse turn of events for someone who has an events business that involves people coming together!
But he had the fortitude along with his co-directors to pivot into the virtual world that we all came to be a part of during 2020/21 and their innovative approach was a win win coming up with products that could help keep teams engaged whilst people were locked down at home utilising zoom. So we came up with escape games and murder mysteries and quizzes, and all sorts of different things that people could do with their teams online. Truth is for a couple of months things were pretty tough but long story short is we came through COVID and had the best two years in business we’ve ever had and in 2020/21 delivered just over three and a half thousand events all around the world and had the most successful two years in business in terms of revenue and profit as well.
We can all learn a great deal from that not least of which is turning what could be abject failure into your fortune and hearing of a success story coming out of COVID is very encouraging!
Moving on we asked Peter about side hustles to which he admits having had one or two but the most memorable was the chocolate business from which the title of this podcast originated
So how did it all begin?
Peter tells us that his wife and daughters are “chocoholics” and so he came up with an idea to help his children “earn” their “pocket” money (it was about giving the girls a hand up rather than a handout he says) by getting them involved in a side hustle he had found selling “wrapped” chocolate bars – for parties, weddings, birthdays, events and it just took off from there. As all things do with family enthusiasm soon dropped off but having created a saleable business, Peter was able to sell it on. That little adventure led to winning an award and for the best new business from the chamber of commerce.
Who wouldn’t like to create a success story from a little “opportunity” like that and add a philanthropic element too!
A side hustle that didn’t cost a lot of money, requiring only some creative thinking and making it work ! Culminating in a a perfect lifestyle business that he was able to sell on after the girls left the nest for a life of their own.
Proof that it’s possible to start a business in your 50’s or 60’s that doesn’t have to be your next Richard Branson business but one that can be fun, make a bit of money from and have the lifestyle you want.
Final words form Peter…
No matter how old your are or what skills you have if you have a passion and can put some thought behind it who knows what you can achieve. It’s definitely not as difficult or scary as some people believe… and it can be a lot of fun!
