When Abraham dug the well at Beersheba, Abimelech asked him to swear that he would not hurt him or his descendants. Yet throughout Scripture we see the descendants of Abraham fighting with the Philistines- descendants of Abimelech. What happened to the oath at Beersheba?

Ishmael had no control over when, or where, or to whom he was born. Yet he is often maligned. How does Scripture remember Ishmael? How did God interact with Ishmael? What are we to learn from his life?

What does Scripture tell us about Abraham? In Genesis we read of all Abraham's struggles on the way to realizing the promise that God gave him. Here in Genesis 21, Isaac, the son of promise is born. Romans 4 gives us proper perspective of looking at the life of Abraham.

Have you ever been confused by Abraham's behavior when he went to see Abimelech? This message sheds some light on how the Father of Faith could fall in such an odd way. You will be encouraged to keep your faith current and not live in the past.

One of the saddest stories in Genesis is the account of Lot as he pitches his tent toward Sodom and Gomorrah, he is a rich man when he arrives but he leaves with only two of his daughters. At the end of his life we see him drunk, alone in a cave with no idea what is happening. This is the sad legacy of Lot given to us for our instruction.

God's faithfulness to His people is shown through His patience and consistency in dealing with Abraham. When God chose Abram it wasn't to show the world how good Abram was- he chose Abram in order to show us how good God is in dealing with His people.

God's covenant with mankind started as a promise to Adam & Eve and continued as a promise and a covenant with Noah, and in Genesis 15 it is renewed as a promise and a covenant with Abram. But this won't be the last time God will renew this covenant- it seems that every time God renews the covenant His people drop the ball in some way and don't keep the covenant. But God is patient and longsuffering until the perfect covenant built on better promises is revealed through Jesus Christ.
