In this edition of Living with Diabetes, DRWF’s Claire Levy presents a special report which explores the specific issues facing black and ethnic minority communities, in Britain, who are more prone to developing diabetes. We hear their experiences and how to minimise the risk of developing Type 2 or managing the condition if it develops. Three guests present different perspectives: Dr Joan St John is an NHS diabetes specialist working in primary care who is also a clinical advisor to Diabetes Africa; Francine Daley was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2008 and was recently shocked to discover that her HBA1C was in excess of 120; Jan King’s family is of Caribbean origin with several relatives living with diabetes and her own mother has had Type 2 for over 20 years.
