May 28         (Sixth Sunday of Easter)

Text:            Isaiah 43:1-2, 5-7

Title:            Fearless: "Facing Unexpected Crisis"

Theme:        In both of these stories the characters face unexpected crisis. The Israelites are facing the unexpected crisis of being conquered by Babylon and the great dispersion and the disciples are faced with the unexpected crisis of a storm. But in both circumstances God proves two things; God is with us and God is in control.

May 21         (Fifth Sunday of Easter)

Text:            Matthew 5:1-12

Title:            Fearless: "Suffering and Fear"

Theme:        The Cross is a symbol of our redemption but it's also a symbol of great suffering. Jesus has said to his "would be" disciples that if you want to be my disciple, you too must take up your own cross, you too must suffer. But then isn't it precisely when we are suffering and walking through that valley of the shadow of death  that we learn to fear no evil?

May 14          (Fourth Sunday of Easter)

Text:             2 Kings 5:1-14

Title:             Fearless: "The Fear of Losing Control"

Theme:         Naaman was a a soldier who had it all. He was praised by everyone from   peasants to Kings. He was the biggest and the best that Syria had to offer;   a man in control of his own life, that is, until he contracted leprosy. Then he had to give up control and be willing to bathe in some strange waters to be healed. If we try to control everything about our lives we should be afraid. But once we realize that God is sovereign and give God control the fear is gone.

May 7           (Third Sunday of Easter)       

Text:            John 2:1-11

Title:            Fearless: "When the Joy Runs Out"

Theme:         There are many things in this life that can rob us of our joy; grief, disease, pain, etc. These life experiences can lead to depression and sometimes worse. Just as Jesus turned the water into wine, so he can turn our sorrow into joy.

Text:            Jeremiah 1:4-10

Title:            Fearless: "Overcoming the Fear of Failure"

                   Fear of failure is the #1 fear of most people, especially men. Jeremiah was very afraid of failure and tried to get out of God's call on his life. His fear was that he was just an average guy and not capable of doing what God asked of him. But he learned that what mattered to God was not that he was average but that he was available.
