When you're facing a severe difficulty, have you ever asked, "What did I do to deserve this?" That's what Jesus' followers asked when they met a man born blind. "Who sinned, this man or his parents?" But in John 9:1-5, Jesus surprises them with a third option and teaches us spiritual truth we need.

Questions and skepticism are "in" these days, especially when it comes to Christianity. The Jewish religious leaders in John 8 had plenty of both, and their unbelief showed up in their attitude and in their actions, even to the point of picking up stones. But Jesus makes a promise in verse 51 that still stands: "if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death." We may come saying we believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, but does your life show that you truly believe in His Word? "God said it, that settles it. Now believe it."

In this service we were dealing with a power outage so the video and audio quality were not ideal. Thanks for bearing with us.
This week in John 8:39-47, Jesus does something that had to be shocking to hear. He looks the most respected, most religious men in Jerusalem in the eye and tells them, calmly and directly, that their father is the devil. Think about the last time someone who loved you told you something you didn't want to hear. A parent's "no" that stung in the moment but kept you from something worse. That's what's happening here. Jesus isn't losing patience with these men, He's telling them the truth because their eternal destiny depends on it. Watch or listen to this sermon now.

We are all slaves, either to sin or to Christ. In John 8:31-38, Jesus shows us that true freedom is not the liberty to do whatever we please, but freedom from sin through faith in Him. Only the Son can set us free, and if the Son sets us free, we are free indeed.

In John 8:21–30 Jesus gives a strong warning about the danger of unbelief. Our sins make us guilty before God, but the sin of unbelief keeps us guilty. Jesus makes it clear that unless we believe in Him, we will die in our sins. But the good news is that anyone who repents of sin and turns to Jesus in faith will be forgiven, have eternal life, and no longer walk in darkness, but have the light of life. And those whose faith is in Christ are reminded that true faith shows itself in a life shaped by God’s Word, lived for His glory, and pointing others to Jesus.

This week's sermon, "If Anyone Thirsts" from John 7:37–52, explores Jesus's bold invitation on the last day of the Feast of Booths, calling anyone whose soul thirsts, for forgiveness, peace, or purpose, to come and find satisfaction in Him alone. He promises that all who believe will receive the Holy Spirit, with "rivers of living water" flowing from their lives in love for God and others. Yet even as Jesus speaks with unmatched authority, the crowd remains divided, a reminder that belief in Christ is still where every soul must turn.

In this sermon, "Where I Am," from John 7:25–36, we see the crowds in Jerusalem divided over who Jesus really is. Some suspecting He might be the Messiah, others dismissing Him based on mistaken assumptions about His origins. Jesus boldly proclaims His mission from the Father, warning that those who reject Him will not be able to follow where He is going. This passage reminds us that Jesus's boldness can be ours too, as we trust in God's sovereign work to draw people to faith even as we're called to share the Gospel.

Jesus' opponents in John 7 don't really challenge what He taught, they challenge His right to teach it at all. Where'd He get His learning? Who trained Him? Last Sunday we looked at how Jesus answered that challenge, not by defending Himself, but by pointing to the Father who sent Him and exposing the unbelief underneath their questions. It's a good passage to ask ourselves: are we weighing the substance of what Jesus says, or just sizing Him up by the wrong measure?

When you read your Bible, you discover that what you believe about Jesus matters, not just for today, but for eternity. In John 7:10-13, Jesus goes up to the feast privately while the crowds mutter about Him: some say "He is a good man," others say He's leading people astray, and no one dares speak openly for fear of the Jews. This message will challenge you to examine the same question those crowds faced, what do you truly believe about Jesus, and challenges you to speak His name plainly, without fear, no matter the cost.

When you read your Bible, you discover that God doesn't work the way we would. In John 7:1-9, Jesus' own brothers press Him to make a big splash at the Feast of Booths, show your power, get some followers, but Scripture is clear: not even His brothers believed in Him. Jesus' answer, "My time has not yet come," reveals a Savior fully submitted to the Father's timetable, not to the world's pressure for popularity. This message calls us to examine ourselves, are we truly believers, or just familiar with Jesus, and to learn from Christ to trust and obey God's Word above our own ways.
