So, who watched the Vice Presidential Debate? Miranda and I talk about how one moment, in particular, resonated with us as women and - simply - as people who desire to have a voice. We affirm that all people deserve that voice.
Listen as we have a conversation about how our voices have - at times - been silenced, but also have we have learned to find our place in the conversation.
Join us for the continuation of our conversation with Cedric and Aleia as they use their voices to express their own experiences and speak to the issues that we currently face as a country. We are so very grateful to have taught both of these amazing individuals.
Join a larger discussion with two of our former students who share their thoughts on the current racial climate, as well as their own experiences with racism.
Liz and Miranda continue discussing the racial tension and each individual's personal responsibility in seeing racism, saying something, and (more importantly) DOING something. We can no longer be part of the silent majority and need to recognize our part in this effort for change.
Join this dialogue and acknowledge the need for creating this space for passionate and reasonable conversation.
This might seem like a strange title, but (if you don't already recognize the quote) it will make sense in the first few minutes of Episode 6. In this way, Miranda and I continue to discuss our responsibility in battling racism and being allies. Again, "forgive us if we fail in this" - we are committed to learning and holding each other accountable as we press forward towards a better tomorrow. Join us in that conversation.
"Forgive us, if we fail in this"...
In this episode we have a completely organic conversation about the marches, conflicts and our responsibility. This conversation will evolve over coming episodes. We will develop this discussion to include our role as allies, the actions of leadership, and our responsibility as we move towards the election in November.
What are the barriers we face as teachers in our Southern (frequently conservative) classrooms? What happens when we confront racism, misogyny, and other conflicts between our students?
What do we need from each other as women? As human beings? How can we support each other in a world full of turmoil?
Join us in this conversation, as we discuss these questions/comments from listeners and continue to explore our role in an often divided society.
"To be or not to be"...an outspoken woman...in the South. (Indulge us, we are English teachers).
Join Episode 3 of our podcast, as we talk about how the negative responses to our political opinions are often framed around our gender. And, stay with us as we start a conversation about the value of outspoken women who color outside the lines.
In the first episode, we introduced you to our friendship. Now, we want to start conversations, to open up a space for you to join our virtual hike and contribute your thoughts and experiences.
In doing that, we address two conversations in Episode 2. First, we want to pay tribute to and honor the life of Ahmaud Arbery - who was killed here in our state. From our hearts, we grieve with his mother and family, and we long for a world where racism is eradicated. Second, we want to give voice to a woman who wrote to us about her experiences, her reflections, and her hope for a "new dawn".
We hope you will join us on our hike and in our conversations.
First, you need to make sure you have read The Washington Post article from February 29, 2020 entitled "Miranda's Rebellion" by Stephanie McCrummen. We are teachers. So, that is your first assignment.
Then, sit back and listen to us invite you on our hikes and into how our friendship began. After this introduction, in future episodes, we will be walking you through the issues that the article addresses and then using our podcast episodes and forums to discuss hot button issues, current events, our friendship and our love of nature - from our often humorous, sometimes argumentative, and always individual perspectives.
