We had an amazing Library Marketing Book Club meeting on July 24, 2024, featuring Tamsen Webster, the author of "Find Your Red Thread." If you couldn't make it, here's a rundown of the key moments—and trust me, you'll want to catch the recording!

Tamsen kicked off the meeting by sharing her background and her expertise in helping leaders craft compelling cases for change. Right from the start, Tamsen's insights were both enlightening and actionable.
Tamsen then walked us through her "Red Thread" framework, which is all about creating stories that resonate. She explained the five essential elements: a goal, a problem, a moment of truth, a change in thinking, and an action to be taken. To bring these concepts to life, she used examples from Disney movies, making them clear and relatable.
One of the standout moments came when Leslie Marinelli asked about how to focus on specific goals when libraries have so many services. Tamsen’s advice: zero in on your key audience and what matters to them. For instance, if you’re presenting to the library's board of commissioners, connect your library's offerings to their community priorities.
Denna Grangaard then asked about structuring presentations to get buy-in from multiple stakeholders. Tamsen recommended starting with the core audience's needs and using both deductive and inductive reasoning. This approach helps build a compelling argument that aligns with what your audience already believes.
This session was packed with valuable information and practical advice. Don’t miss out—watch the full recording now. Whether you're a library marketer looking for fresh ideas or just love a good story, Tamsen’s framework is something you’ll want to dive into.
