  • The Devlins

Episode 13 of “Load-In Through the Back” brings a conversation with Irish Alt-Rocker Colin Devlin of the Devlins.

You may recognize the band from ‘90s radio hits “Waiting,” or Batman Forever soundtrack standout “Crossing the River.”

After nearly two decades, the band is back with a new full-length album:  “All the Days” out October 4, 2024 on Blue Elán Records.

In this interview, Troy catches up with Colin to discuss the band's storied touring history, writing songs for a band while maintaining a flourishing solo career, television licensing, and the general ups and downs of a life in music.

Make sure to stream “All The Days” now, and visit ColinDevlin.com to pick up a physical copy.

  • Five For Fighting

John Ondrasik is a songwriter. He is a performer. He is a father. He is a social justice advocate. He is Five for Fighting.

He is also our guest for Episode 12 of “Load-In Through the Back,” and we couldn’t be more excited.

Under the moniker Five for Fighting, John is best known for his smash hits “Superman (It’s Not Easy),” “100 Years,” and “the Riddle.”

Host Troy Millette sat down with John to discuss the upcoming String Quartet tour (hitting the northeast in early October), meeting Pat Benatar, his creative and touring processes, and which NHL legend he’d most like to drop the gloves with!

  • Soul Asylum

That’s right, it’s our first full-blown rock star: Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum! Dave joins us from the road for Episode 11 to chat about the new LP “Slowly but Shirley,” the accompanying fall tour, cold-cut turkey, and 40 years of the band.

If you have been living under a rock since 1988– Soul Asylum is a GRAMMY award-winning rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Best known for their massive radio hits “Runaway Train” and “Somebody to Shove,” the group has spent the better part of the last four decades on the road, and has even played a presidential inauguration!

  • Maisy Kay

Our guest on Episode 10 of “Load-In Through the Back” is UK-born, California-based pop star Maisy Kay!

With #1 songs on both the Spotify Viral and YouTube Music charts, her intimate lyricism and contagiously melodic dance hooks have placed her on arena tours with the likes of JVKE and Tori Kelly. Her song “Karma is a Bitch Like You” gained the attention of electronic music legend Tiesto, who remixed the song for the 2024 release “Karma.”

In this interview, Troy and Maisy discuss pot roast, songwriting, managerial woes, and carving out space in the music landscape as a young artist.

The “Purple Skies World Tour” with Tori Kelly runs through the end of 2024, and Maisy’s new EP “Wonderlust: the Dusk” drops October 18th.

The single “Love is a God” is available to stream right now.

  • Bermuda Search Party (formerly Q-Tip Bandits)

Episode Nine’s guests are the outrageously talented, funny, and aesthetic (trust us) Bermuda Search Party! Formally known as the Q-Tip Bandits, this Boston-based pop fusion band has been making waves across the United States, playing hundreds of headlining shows and festival slots since their inception in 2017.

Troy and Pauly catch up with frontman/guitarist Leo Son, and vocalist/bassist Claire Davies to chat about their inspirations, aspirations, their re-branding, upcoming tour plans, and how to steal a cargo trailer– er, well, sort of.

Make sure to follow Bermuda Search Party wherever your scrolling may find you– @BermudaSearchParty. Their music is available to stream and purchase on all reputable online music outlets (and probably some of the not-so-reputable ones).

  • Madeline Hawthorne

On Episode Eight of “Load-In Through the Back,” Montana-based singer/songwriter Madeline Hawthorne admits that Vermont maple syrup is superior to her birth state of New Hampshire’s… okay, she doesn’t, but Troy and Pauly still wanted to put that out there.

If you are not familiar with Madeline’s work, you are in for a real treat. She has spent the last several years traveling across the country with acts such as Jason Isbell, Lukas Nelson, Josh Turner, Kip Moore, and Nathaniel Rateliff. Her latest LP, “Tales from Late Nights & Long Drives” is out now wherever you listen to or purchase music!

Madeline joins us to discuss her latest single, “Howl at the Moon,” as well as her fall tour with alt-country outfit Goodnight, Texas. Our conversation also covers her creative process, festival-hopping across the West Coast, and (of course) Yellowstone.

Make sure to follow Madeline Hawthorne on Instagram (@madeline.hawthorne.) and X (@mhawthornemusic), and of course, you can find tour dates, merch, and sign up for her mailing list at the official website: madelinehawthorne.com.

  • Fantastic Cat

We are lucky to have Fantastic Cat’s Mike Montali on Episode Seven of “Load-In Through the Back”– not because he’s one of the outrageously charismatic and talented members of the folk-rock supergroup that Rolling Stone Magazine calls “equal parts Dylan and Springsteen,” but because Fantastic Cat almost died…

Well, at least according to their website bio…

Which also alludes to rehab stints, mega ego, and an encounter with Godzilla which culminated with the ruination of the mastertapes for their live EP “Live at the Bowery.”

I’m not making any of this up… but they are.

The jovial nature of their brand and onstage persona’s in contrast with sentimental songwriting and unparalleled versatility in musicianship, has made Fantastic Cat a must-see act in every town across America!

Spoiler alert: this Cat is a dog person. We know because this conversation features a very special appearance from Mike’s dog Otis.

During this interview, Mike touches on the recording of Fantastic Cat’s latest record “Now That’s What I Call Fantastic Cat,” their rigorous touring schedule, becoming a “real band” AFTER recording their first record, and *admittedly* Troy’s favorite subject– Adam Duritz of Counting Crows.

Catch Fantastic Cat on tour through the remainder of 2024 and well into 2025.

More info is available at FantasticCatBand.com and across the internet @FantasticCatBand.

  • PANGAEA

On this episode we chat with Ron Poulsen, founding member and bassist of prog-rock band PANGAEA. Following a 17-year hiatus (yes, you read that correctly), the band is back with a new record entitled “Beowulf,” which is out now on HMG Records.

Our conversation covers the reformation of the group, the monumental changes of the music industry over the past two decades, PANGAEA’s storied touring history, and their future plans.

You can download the new album on the band’s official webpage (pangaea.band) and check out a slew of official music videos on their YouTube page.

  • Christian Love

Christian Love is the son of legendary Beach Boys frontman Mike Love. He is an esteemed songwriter, an independent solo artist, and the current touring guitarist/vocalist of his father’s legendary group. He is also our guest on Episode Five of “Load-In Through the Back!”

In this interview, Troy, Pauly, and Christian discuss the challenges of creating music in the footsteps of his iconic family, writing a commercial smash for R&B star The Weeknd, recording his debut album “Only Alibi’s,” life on the road, and even John Stamos.

If this finds you before September 26th, 2024, consider donating to Christian’s Kickstarter campaign for production of his “Star” music video.

  • Cat Popper

Ya know what, maybe it is alright– because despite Troy ignoring her DM in 2019, we are talking to the wonderful and talented Cat Popper on Episode Four of “Load-In Through the Back!”

Cat is your favorite bassist's favorite bassist. She was an original member of Ryan Adams & the Cardinals. She toured the globe with Grace Potter & the Nocturnals. She plays drums (sort of) with Sasha Dobson and Norah Jones as the female power-trio Puss N Boots. That’s not to mention Jack White, Brian Fallon, Jesse Malin, and the host of other artists whose live and recorded music has been bolstered by the signature sounds of Cat’s ‘66 P-Bass.

As if that wasn’t enough, she released two singles under her own name for Velvet Elk Records in 2020 and 2021. Show off.

In this episode we cover Cat’s musical journey so far, her celebrity online dating profile, and dive into her totally unhinged and awesome Instagram page (@cat_popper).
