Today's Lockdown Listen first of all brings back many memories of a great organist and musician TONY BACK. I little realised at the time that my conversation with the artiste at the old Bolton & District Organ Society in 2005, that this must have been extremely difficult for his to do. It's only listening back after 15 years that there are certain words where he is quite emotional. Had I known that just a few months after this recording, Tony was to leave us far too soon, I would have approached things completely differently. Hindsight is a wonderful thing they say. I apologise for the distortion on the interview and music which, in itself, is puzzling, since the other tracks on the CD are completely intact, as was the item when it was originally broadcast. It's almost as though it shouldn't be played again. Nonetheless, a much-missed talented entertainer.
Following on Today's we feature someone who has (almost) written an entire book of witty and funny stories every day since the lockdown began on Facebook. Mrs Dale's Diary has nothing on this! It's interesting to follow the career of a successful organist and, I for one, can't remember him being this age. I interviewed a rather nervous BRETT WALES at Trafford & District Organ Society in 1999. Who would have thought that, 21 years later, he would be a successful organ festival producer, recording artist, loving husband and father and a hairy biker!
