Locked On Falcons Hit - Quick Takes on the Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons’ right tackle battle is set to shape the entire offense in 2026, with Bill Callahan’s decision between veteran Jawaan Taylor and rookie standout Ethan Oninawa holding massive implications. With two left-handed quarterbacks, the right tackle now protects the blind side, making athleticism and awareness more critical than ever. Will Taylor’s experience win out, or can Onyewa continue his surprise surge from a seventh-round pick to first-team reps? With Chris Lindstrom and Matt Bergeron locking down the guard spots and Jake Matthews at left tackle, the offensive line’s chemistry and communication are under the spotlight. The upcoming preseason game against the Denver Broncos will provide key insights into who can handle the pressure and master vital protection adjustments. Tua Tagovailoa doesn't need to be elite for the Atlanta Falcons to thrive in 2026. With playmakers like Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts at his disposal, simply distributing the ball and minimizing turnovers could set the offense on fire. The revamped quarterback system under Alex Van Pelt and Tommy Reese has both Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. showing promise, with Penix’s health and sharpness improving heading into the season. The looming question: What happens when Michael Penix Jr. is medically cleared—does a quarterback controversy await if Tua is delivering wins? As the Falcons weigh the value of experience against the future potential of a first-round pick, fans can expect lineup intrigue and a dynamic approach to the QB position. Will Tua seize his second chance, or will Penix’s continued progress push the coaching staff to reconsider their options? #Riseup #atlantafalcons #falcons #Tua #michaelpenix Photo credits: IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect

Rookie linebackers Harold Perkins Jr. and Kendal Daniels are turning heads in Atlanta Falcons camp, pushing themselves into first-team reps and forming a dynamic young core with Divine Deablo and Christian Harris. Perkins impresses early, while Daniels' pursuit and athleticism even drew a strong response from star running back Bijan Robinson, fueling fierce Oklahoma-Texas competition on the practice field. Could this rookie duo spark a new era for Atlanta's defense heading into the 2026 season? As Jesse Bates III recovers from injury, DeMarcco Hellams emerges as a key competitor at safety, making the most of his opportunity and flashing depth potential. Meanwhile, Mike Hughes Jr. looks to rebound from a rocky season, currently leading the race for the CB2 spot opposite AJ Terrell after a standout camp. Can these defensive standouts cement their roles and elevate the Falcons' defense when the regular season arrives? #riseup #AtlantaFalcons #Falcons #NFL #NFLNews #FalconsNews #DirtyBirds #AtlantaFalcons2026 #HaroldPerkins #KendalDaniels #nfldraft Photo credits: IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect

The Atlanta Falcons’ quarterback competition takes center stage as questions swirl around Tua Tagovailoa’s injury history and Michael Penix Jr.’s uncertain rehab progress. With both QBs battling to prove their durability, speculation rises over whether Atlanta will keep Jack Strand or Cooper Rush as insurance—or even pursue a trade for veteran depth if injuries strike again. The biggest question remains: If Tua delivers on the field, will the Falcons pivot to Penix once he’s cleared, or ride the hot hand? Receiver chemistry is also heating up. With Drake London locked in as the top target, attention shifts to electrifying rookie Zachariah Branch, veteran Olamadi Zaccheaus, and incoming first-rounder Jahan Dotson. Each is making a strong case for the No. 2 receiver spot and could shape the passing attack all season long. Who will rise as the breakout playmaker behind London in Atlanta’s offense? Drake London’s ranking at No. 96 on the Locked On NFL Top 100 surprises many, especially after his game-changing presence in the Atlanta Falcons’ offense. Catching 100 passes for 1,271 yards and nine touchdowns despite missing four games, London fueled Atlanta’s playoff hopes and remains the central target in the red zone. How much higher could his ranking soar if he plays a full 17-game stretch? James Pierce’s emergence as a rookie edge rusher—racking up 10.5 sacks after not starting until Week 8—has the Falcons fanbase buzzing, even as he faces a looming suspension. With Jaylen Walker sidelined by a torn ACL, Atlanta’s edge depth is under scrutiny. Will Pierce’s return hold the key to revitalizing Jeff Ulbrich’s aggressive defense and keeping those sack numbers high for the Falcons? Bijan Robinson surges to the top as the NFL’s number 1 running back, electrifying Atlanta Falcons fans and landing just outside the league’s top 10 players. After back-to-back 1,400-yard seasons and a jaw-dropping 14 touchdowns in '24, Robinson’s explosive play in both the passing and ground game secures his reputation as a game-changer. Can his impact drive the Falcons toward NFC South contention under Kevin Stefanski’s new regime? Meanwhile, Chris Lindstrom cements his reputation as Atlanta’s Iron Man, playing all 105 possible games since 2019. Despite the challenges of ranking interior linemen, his remarkable streak—allowing only one sack over more than 1,000 snaps—highlights his value alongside the newly extended Matt Bergeron. As the Falcons’ offensive line jells, will Lindstrom’s performance and ranking climb even higher next season? Photo Credit: IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect
