Locked On Red Sox - Daily Podcast On The Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox made a move this offseason, but it only added to the plethora of questions facing this team.

Justin Turner reportedly agreed to terms on a deal with the Red Sox, and while he primarily will be the team's designated hitter, many pointed out he indeed is a third baseman.

NESN's Lauren Willand looks at the deal as a good thing and explains why Turner's versatility and depth will be a good thing for the Red Sox. Later, Lauren also looks into the reports of Rafael Devers and the Red Sox being "galaxies apart," while breaking down Sam Kennedy's recent tone-deaf comments about being frustrated over comments about the Red Sox not being committed to winning.

Ass always the show ends with the mental health minute!

Red Sox have made many head-scratching decisions throughout this offseason so far and have left fans frustrated about the current state of the roster heading into the 2023 season. With many holes still left in the roster, NESN's Lauren Willand and Jake Ignaszewski air out their frustrations about the current state of the Red Sox and look into many concerns that fans have expressed recently. Then they give their thoughts on the trade with the Royals that led to Eric Hosmer being designated and explain why they don't understand players like Brasier, Hernandez or Ort are still on the 40-man roster. Then they react to the signings of JD Martinez to the Dodgers and Christian Vazquez to the Twins.

The Boston Red Sox continued their trend of "what are they doing?!" this week as the abysmal month of December continued.

The Red Sox introduced Masataka Yoshida during a press conference at Fenway Park on Thursday that again was overshadowed by negativity. To make room for Yoshida, the Red Sox DFA'd Jeter Downs -- who was a key piece in the Mookie Betts trade in 2020.

Chaim Bloom also revealed Yoshida likely will lead off, but Yoshida said he is not confident in his abilities to do so.

NESN's Lauren Willand looks into the awkwardness of the presser and questions why the Red Sox want to make him a full-time outfielder when the scouting reports aren't high on his defense.

Later, Lauren looks into a tweet from The Boston Globe's Alex Speier that revealed that Scott Boras implied the Red Sox did not re-sign Xander Bogaerts due to how excited they are about shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer. With Mayer still years away from MLB action, why not just deal with that when the time comes if he does pan out?

Kenley Jansen officially was introduced as a member of the Boston Red Sox, but his press conference was overshadowed by Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers.

NESN's Lauren Willand looks into Jansen's presser, pulls some of her favorite quotes (including his 4-year-old stealing the show!) before diving into Chaim Bloom and Sam Kennedy's comments, deflections and answers that probably won't give Red Sox fans much hope.

Dansby Swanson? The Red Sox reportedly are interested (shocker!) and Bloom reportedly wants to be aggressive on the trade market.

The Boston Globe's Julian McWilliams saw Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom in the airport just hours after Xander Bogaerts signed with the San Diego Padres.

Jake Ignaszewski sits down with Julian to discuss his conversation with Bloom and broke down how it all came about during a tough time for everyone in Red Sox Nation. So, who will fill the void left behind by Bogaerts in the Red Sox middle infield? Julian shares his thoughts on that, as well as the possibility of Alex Verdugo getting traded.

Also, should we be worried that the Kenley Jansen deal has yet to be announced by the Red Sox? Who will be taken off the 40-man roster in order to make room for Boston's new closer?

With all the questions surrounding the Red Sox after Xander Bogaert's departure, MassLive Red Sox beat reporter Chris Cotillo joins Jake Ignaszewski to answer some of those questions. Cotillo had a lengthy conversation with Chaim Bloom a few days after Bogaerts signed elsewhere and shares the biggest takeaways he gathered from that interview. Cotillo then gives his thoughts on Bogaerts signing with the Padres and explains how he thinks the Red Sox will proceed with the infield situation.

The next big domino that fans are waiting to fall is a possible Devers extension and Cotillo shares what he believes the Red Sox could offer the third baseman and when he thinks it could happen. Since the rotation is still one of the main areas of need for the team, Chris shares his thoughts on whether the Red Sox will focus more on the free agent or trade market to address that area and gives a few names to look out for.

Lastly, Chris answers some fan questions from Twitter.

Xander Bogaerts’ time in Boston is over.

The Boston Red Sox, once again, let a homegrown star slip away after Bogaerts agreed to an 11-year deal worth $280 million with the San Diego Padres.

NESN’s Lauren Willand and Jake Ignaszewski react to the news that broke just after midnight, what this means for Rafael Devers, how the Red Sox will replace Bogaerts and just express disappointment in the ownership and front office.

They talk about the reaction it set off among Red Sox fans and how this is yet another black eye on this team.

The Boston Red Sox have their closer!

A busy Wednesday in MLB free agency resulted in the Red Sox reportedly agreeing to a deal with Kenley Jansen that is for two years and $32 million.

NESN's Lauren Willand looks into the deal and goes over why this is a good signing for the Red Sox -- who haven't had a closer in what feels like forever -- and how it will benefit the other relief pitchers. Lauren also provides the latest on where things stand with Xander Bogaerts and the Red Sox -- and it's good news!

It wouldn't be a Boston Red Sox offseason if they weren't beat out by a team for a free agent they wanted.

NESN's Lauren Willand discusses Tommy Kahnle going to the Yankees despite the Red Sox having a two-year offer on the table for the relief pitcher. While he would have made the bullpen better, there is an injury risk BUT, it's the same old song and dance with the Red Sox being interested and getting beat out.

Lauren also catches us up on the 2022 winter meetings and where things stand with Xander Bogaerts. She discusses talking points from Chaim Bloom and Alex Cora meeting with the media Monday, and just how things haven't seemed to change one bit over the years.

As always, Lauren ends the show with the mental health minute!
