Locked On Red Wings - Daily Podcast On The Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings made a move on wednesday, signing Mason Appleton to a 2-year, $2.9M AAV deal. Does the deal make sense? Depends on who you ask. The Wings also re-signed Elmer Soderblom to a 2-year deal as well. #LGRW\

Most of the leagues top free agents didn't make it to noon on July 1st. Meaning rather than overpay for a mediocre player, Detroit opted for several cheap depth players to help the team on the fringes. That's fine and acceptable. BUT, missing on K'Andre Miller will hurt as the defender would have really helped Detroit now. #LGRW

The Red Wings were able to offload of 100% of Vladimir Tarasenko's final year in a trade to the Minnesota Wild for 'future consideration'. They also avoided adding a sweetner, giving Detroit an additional $4.75M in cap space for tomorrow. Detroit used some of that added cap to re-sign Albert Johansson to a two-year deal carrying  an AAV of $1.125M, a good bridge deal for a player who surprised many this season. Aaron Ekblad is also off the market, opting to take a team friendly deal to stay in Florida. #LGRW

After years of speculation and rumor, it finally happened. John Gibson was traded by the Anaheim Ducks to the Detroit Red Wings for Petr Mrazek and two picks. How much of an upgrade is this? Also, we round up day 2 of the draft and cover the comments Yzerman made in the post-draft media availability. #LGRW

Despite us wanting them to, Detroit did NOT trade the pick. But they did acquire a player on our short list if they did draft, in Carter Bear. The F from the WHL plays with pace, is physical, and has the skill to finish. Detroit re-signed Antti Tuomisto and William Lagesson. The new CBA has been passed and the changes are great! Noah Dobson was dealt from the New York Islanders to the Montreal Canadiens and social media flipped. #LGRW

The Red Wings dropped the first hints of what is to come with the reveal of its centennial season logo, along with a flurry of merch. The timing couldn't be more poetic for Detroit, as we are just a day away from ushuring in the next generation with the NHL draft. What are the players at the top of our big board? Bear? Aitcheson? Eklund? #LGRW

It was going to be a difficult year for Zetterberg to get in, and like before, he was snubbed from the Hockey Hall of Fame. When will Z make the Hall? The Detroit Red Wings have been linked to Islanders' defender Noah Dobson in trade rumors. Detroit's preseason schedule released and it's a gauntlet. #LGRW

A week from Free Agency what moves could Detroit make to address their many needs? Well, as Brian learns in his wishlist, it's not easy. Jason Robertson is his big swing trade to make this team's offense potent, and adding Gavrikov on the back-end would make their depth so much better. But that doesnt leave a lot of money elsewhere, so contracts need to be moved out. #LGRW

Ivan Provorov is a minute munching defenseman who plays in all situations. The catch? He is good, but not great. Not a bad catch, is it? Should he be a priority for Detroit this offseason? #LGRW
