Locked On Sabres - Daily Podcast On The Buffalo Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres and Ottawa Senators made a giant trade last season swapping Dylan Cozens for Josh Norris. So far, the trade has gone as expected. Josh Norris looks like the better hockey player, but he is the one with the significant injury risk. How has it gone for Cozens in his time in Ottawa? Where has Norris helped the Sabres the most when he's played? Sneaky Joe says he would not hit the 'undo button' on the trade if there was one.

Plus, the Sabres and Senators are both riding win streaks into Tuesday night's matchup. Joe believes the Senators, unlike some recent Sabre opponents, are a better team than their record shows, but Linus Ullmark has struggled a lot this season. Will Alex Lyon continue his hot streak? And what the odds say about tonight's matchup.

The Buffalo Sabres win streak has reached six games, winning a game having played the night before, on the road, against a very good New Jersey Devils team that had Jack Hughes back in the lineup. The second period may have been the Sabres best period of the season. How did they do it? Plus, Zach Benson using his IQ to score goals, Josh Norris continues to score, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen gives the Sabres a big start. Is Lyon-UPL going to be the two goalie system? And what the hires of Marc Bergevin and Josh Flynn to the Sabres front office means for Jarmo Kekkalainen and the reputation of the club.

Everyone is wondering if John Tortorella is the next man to stand behind the Buffalo Sabres bench, should the team move on from Lindy Ruff as head coach. Does it make sense for the Sabres to hire an old school type of coach like Tortorella at this age? Sneaky Joe looks back on Torts' time both with Jarmo Kekalainen in Columbus, but also his most recent stop in Philadelphia. What went wrong for Torts with the Flyers includes a message getting stale and a run in with a talented player.

Plus, what went right in the Sabres win over the Flyers, which was the team's fourth win in a row. A game where Tage Thompson had some bad moments early, but scored an important goal, and Josh Norris had a slick game winning goal. Also, a preview of Sabres-Islanders.

The Buffalo Sabres are well rested, not playing since last weekend, are fired up from the GM news of the week, and play a very beatable opponent in the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night. No excuses to get a win, and look good doing it in front of Buffalo Sabres fans. Sneaky Joe dives into the matchup with the Flyers, a team that lacks a superstar talent anywhere on the roster, but somehow finds themselves in a playoff spot. Despite the record, are the Flyers actually a better team than the Sabres?

Alex Lyon gets another start, which will be four in a row, as he continues to push for the Sabres starting goalie position. Will Michael Kesselring be ready to return? And why Joe likes the Sabres to win the game, and win by more than one goal.

How does Columbus look back on the Jarmo Kekäläinen era during his 11 years as the team's GM? Sneaky Joe is joined by Jay Forster from Locked On Blue Jackets to take an in-depth look on new Sabres GM Jarmo Kekäläinen's time with the Blue Jackets. From big trades, to great drafting, Jarmo built a winning team in Columbus, the best the franchise has ever seen. However, there were certainly issues in the final years that led to Jarmo being fired by the Blue Jackets that hopefully he has learned from. Is there such thing as being too bold? Too aggressive?

The Buffalo Sabres got their GM in waiting in the boat when they brought Jarmo Kekäläinen in last spring, and it has resulted in a GM that has as good a background as the Sabres could have asked for. A deep dive into Jarmo's career in Columbus and St. Louis shows a great talent evaluator that drafted a contending team with the Blues, and then the Blue Jackets. Also, an aggressive trader that acquired the likes of Artemi Panarin, Matt Duchene, and Seth Jones. And someone that shocked the NHL world when he signed Johnny Gaudreau to Columbus in free agency. Should we expect Jarmo to replicate that in Buffalo, but with better season results? Plus, where we stand with whether Lindy Ruff will stay as head coach, and why Joe is thinking Peyton Krebs and Jack Quinn could be moved soon.

Jarmo Kekäläinen met with the media for the first time as GM of the Buffalo Sabres and one of the biggest takeaways was he would not commit to Lindy Ruff and the coaching staff staying on or the present hockey department sticking around in it's current form. Will the Sabres make another move? Kekäläinen also had a lot to say on the future of Alex Tuch and his contract, his relationship with Terry Pegula and how much autonomy he has to run his hockey department, and his mentality with trades. Kekäläinen was aggressive with trades in Columbus, but will he still be as bold as he once was?

Plus, Kekäläinen answers a question about the playoff drought in the same way that every other Sabres figurehead has answered it, a pretty dismissal tone about the 14 years.

The Buffalo Sabres have finally made the move fans were waiting for, firing GM Kevyn Adams after five and a half seasons leading the team's hockey department to zero playoff appearances. Jarmo Kekalainen has been promoted as his replacement from the seat of Senior Advisor. Adams from the outset appeared to be an underqualified man for the job and that definitely showed to be the case, with countless mistakes both in public and with hockey moves. Sneaky Joe looks back on the direction of the organization under Adams, which went from too much patience as a developing team, to bailing on a formula that worked, to never getting it right at goaltender. Plus, a look at the trade history Adams leaves behind.

Noah Ostlund has had a very strong rookie season with a combination of strong defensive play, and an improving offensive game playing third line center. With the Sabres getting healthier, Ostlund has been sent to Rochester due to a numbers crunch. Should the Sabres have tried harder to find Ostlund a spot in the lineup? Sneaky Joe says Jordan Greenway should've been the odd man out, instead of putting Greenway on the top line. Plus, the Sabres are putting Tage Thompson back at center, and the lineup immediately looks better. And UPL gets another crack at the net heading into a matchup with the Calgary Flames, who are playing better since playing the Sabres in Buffalo.

The Buffalo Sabres lost yet another game in which they outshot their opponent, this time to the Winnipeg Jets by a score of 4-1. What explains the Sabres playing so well and not getting the results? Sneaky Joe points to Lindy Ruff's system showing that it works, but not for the players Kevyn Adams has put on the team.

Josh Norris has his worst game as a member of the Buffalo Sabres, but there shouldn't be cause for concern. And is it finally time the Sabres cut down to two goaltenders for the rest of the season? Will Colten Ellis be the one to go? Plus, a look at the standings still shows a division that is just begging the Sabres to take a spot in the top three.
