Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

A New Orleans Saints Jameis Winston/Baker Mayfield debate is starting to get pushed, and it's a needless conversation. Winston is the much better quarterback that is familiar with the Saints system and has engrained himself in the culture of the team and vice versa. Changing paths to Mayfield would not make any sense for the Saints in 2022.

There are two scenarios in which Baker would be a fit in New Orleans, but neither are built or should be built around replacing Winston. Would you rather turn to Mayfield for a couple of games in a worst-case scenario situation or Andy Dalton?

Do the Saints have the best offensive line in the NFC South? While the Atlanta Falcons are laughable when it comes to the raw numbers, the data in our second part of the evaluation points to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

New Orleans Saints OTAs are about to enter their second session and while some are pointing to QB Jameis Winston's limp as the story of the first session, it's really his participation that should be making headlines. The three biggest OTA observations include Winston's participation, Michael Thomas' presence, and Tyrann Mathieu's leadership.

What to look forward to in the second flight of OTAs include Pete Werner, Alontae Taylor's development, veteran attendance, and UDFA TE Lucas Krull.

New Orleans Saints QB Jameis Winston suffered a season-ending ACL injury last season, and sees his rehabilitation process as an opportunity to get better and improve areas of the game he wants to focus on. Alvin Kamara, Jarvis Landry, Michael Thomas, and Chris Olave not only get to benefit from his on-field focus, but they help him benefit as well.

Winston's first thought after his injury was whether or not he'll return to New Orleans. After Drew Brees and then Sean Payton stepped away, things were murky throughout the Deshaun Watson pursuit. How Jameis ended up back in the Big Easy and why he wanted to return.

The Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will compete with the Saints for the NFC South in 2021. But one advantage New Orleans will maintain is their offensive line, even without Terron Armstead. Part 1 of why New Orleans has the best offensive line in the division.

New Orleans Saints stars Jameis Winston, Tyrann Mathieu, and Chris Olave make immediate impact and display leadership at Saints OTAs. Michael Thomas "isn't ready yet" but is expected to be back for training camp.

Cam Jordan and Marcus Davenport are near locked at defensive end, but the spot next to David Onyemata on the interior could be wide open for an intriguing position battle. Demario Davis and Pete Werner are set to start at linebacker, but the third spot in the second level could also be up for grabs.

Second-round NFL draft selection Alontae Taylor will get a chance to battle for a starting role, but Paulson Adebo looks locked in to start opposite Marshon Lattimore while Tyrann Mathieu, Marcus Maye, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson look to create havoc for opposing offenses.

New Orleans Saints OTAs are underway and Michael Thomas and Jameis Winston were in attendance. How their presence impacts Chris Olave, Jarvis Landry, Pete Carmichael, and the rest of the Saints offense and team.

Marcus Williams left a big hole in the defense, but can Marcus Maye or Tyrann Mathieu fill the deep safety role? Why the role is so important to the Saints defense and how Maye and Mathieu will be interchangeable but focused on their roles.

Saints sign former San Diego State tight end Kahale Warring. After stints with the Houston Texans, Buffalo Bills, and Jacksonville Jaguars, he’s found a new spot in the Big Easy and could be a late surprise signing that comes up big in camp.

After adding Jarvis Landry, Chris Olave, Tyrann Matheiu, and Marcus Maye, the New Orleans Saints will have one make or break element outside of their personnel: playcalling. How will Dennis Allen do juggling defensive playcalling and head coaching responsibilities? How the cohesion of the Saints coaching staff could be a saving grace.

Pete Carmichael is set to call the plays full time in 2022 for the Saints offense and Jameis Winston. How will he maximize Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara, and the other weapons around him? Carmichael's track record shows he knows how to call plays for a talented roster, which the Saints have going into this season.

Peter King projects the Saints as a double-digit win, top-12 team in 2022. But not for the reason you may expect. All of a sudden, the talk of the New Orleans Saints isn't the defense, but the offense.

The New Orleans Saints welcome back Michael Thomas while also adding receivers Chris Olave and Jarvis Landry this offseason. While that brings excitement and hope to the fanbase and organization, it could mean some players might see their roles change and potentially even find themselves off the roster in 2022.

Similarly, the additions of Tyrann Mathieu, Alontae Taylor and others could send some familiar names to the practice squad or other teams. Including one player who just signed his deal this offseason.

Chris Olave ranks top ten in Matt Williamson’s fantasy dynasty rankings. The Saints preseason schedule is nearly set with trips to the Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers before hosting the Los Angeles Charger at home. Saints and Packers also working out join practices. Jameis Winston will likely return as a Team Captain alongside Demario Davis, Cam Jordan, and JT Gray. But who else will wear the badge?

The New Orleans Saints have already made waves in NFL free agency after the NFL Draft by signing LSU Tiger Tyrann Mathieu and Jarvis Landry, could Odell Beckham Jr. be next? Targets will be a question, of course, but if OBJ finds himself available as the season begins, the Saints could be in need if any injuries set in.

Mickey Loomis, Khai Hartley and the Saints continue their salary cap gymnastics with a major draft class, impact free agents, and money still left to spend. Was missing on Deshaun Watson the best thing to happen to them this offseason? And why are people so mad about the Saints ways? Evidence shows that NFL teams that spend money, win games. Darrel Williams and Kwon Alexander are two names to watch over the coming weeks.

In case you missed it, the saints signed Jarvis Landry, Sean Payton signs with FOX, Drew Brees could join him if he’s out at NBC, several roster moves lead to a reunion with Devine Ozigbo, and the Saints are building their already strong culture with Louisiana ties. A week in New Orleans Saints news.

The New Orleans Saints contract for Jarvis Landry is an absolute steal and shows you that they expect him to be a major contributor next to Michael Thomas and Chris Olave. It also shows how much Landry wanted to join the team, especially after his conversation with Jameis Winston.

Saints assistant offensive line coach and team legend Zach Strief spoke with Brooke Kirchhoffer and WWL-TV about first-round NFL Draft pick Trevor Penning, his development, expectations, and the long road ahead of him.

Darrel Williams was in New Orleans, what's next? Jameis Winston is working as if he'll be full go at training camp. PFF ranks Saints last in "Salary cap health" rankings, and Ron Dayne ranks Alvin Kamara as a top-5 running back in today's NFL.
