Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

NFL Draft prospect and Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey could be the New Orleans Saints' next Pro Bowl super start if selected No.8 overall. His size, speed, athleticism and ability to take over football games would make him a playmaking, game-disrupting presence in Brandon Staley's defense.

In this year's NFL Draft, Bailey falling to the Saints and being paired with star pass rusher Chase Young would be a dream come true for the Saints, Staley and the Who Dat Nation.

The episode delves into the evolving dynamics of the New Orleans Saints’ running back room, emphasizing the organization’s intention to utilize both Alvin Kamara and Travis Etienne together rather than viewing them as replacements for one another. Discussion centers on how this dual-threat approach could rejuvenate the team’s offensive effectiveness, especially after last season’s struggles with depth and production. The conversation explores the historical precedent for successful multi-back systems, the importance of upgraded offensive line play, and the coaching strategies needed to maximize both players’ strengths. Uncertainty remains around Kamara’s long-term plans, but with current roster configuration, the Saints appear positioned to benefit from having multiple versatile, high-level playmakers at running back.

Negotiations for Chris Olave’s contract extension are heating up, with the New Orleans Saints not appearing to be uncomfortable with the $30 million mark—just shy of recently-extended wideouts like Garrett Wilson and DK Metcalf. Perhaps shy of expectations as well, but not insurmountably so. Incentives and guarantees bridge the narrow gap, and why Olave and his camp could play the long game for a future payday. Meanwhile, the Saints evaluate Brian Bresee's fifth-year option after his positional shift and strong defensive impact last season impressed.

Kaden Elliss’ signing was a calculated move, independent of Demario Davis’s departure to the New York Jets, sparking renewed draft and trade speculation for adding linebackers. As Derek Carr’s future generates no phone calls from other NFL teams and Hunter Dekkers could see a return after his UFL stint.  Fan-favorite Charlie Smyth impressed with competition at kicker, while questions remain at gunner and returner as New Orleans eyes a fresh special teams look for 2026.

The New Orleans Saints have a few 2026 NFL Draft prospect that would uniquely fit into their systems, most of all Safety Caleb Downs. The do-it-all defender is an absolute playmaker and game-changing talent with the leadership skills and football I.Q. to be the perfect blend of culture fit and on-field field for Brandon Staley's defense.

Why the Saints should consider doubling up at wide receiver in this year's draft by combining yards after catch threats (Chris Bell, Zachariah Branch, Kendrick Law) and bigger-bodied pass-catchers (Carnell Tate, Bryce Lance, Ted Hurst). The Saints also still have work to do at some key positions this offseason.

Don’t underestimate Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez—his heart and production may outshine any questions about his size. As the New Orleans Saints eye the upcoming NFL Draft, emerging prospects like Rodriguez, Oklahoma’s R Mason Thomas, and San Diego State cornerback Chris Johnson could deliver unexpected value in the second round, bringing elite tackling, ball skills, and disruptive play to a defense on the rise.

On the offensive side, wide receivers Germie Bernard from Alabama and Chris Brazell from Tennessee offer intriguing blends of physicality and speed, while interior linemen Emmanuel Pregnon and Chase Bisontis could ignite competition up front. With all eyes on a potential Cam Jordan reunion, the silence around his future with New Orleans sparks speculation.

Louisville wide receiver Chris Bell could be the explosive playmaker the New Orleans Saints need in their receiving corps. Despite a recent ACL injury, Bell boasts elite yards-after-catch ability and punishing physicality, offering a dynamic threat at 6'2", 220+ pounds.

Tyler Shough’s push to reunite with Bell in New Orleans underscores their on-field chemistry, but does that influence the Saints’ draft board? With talent like Lee Hunter and Denzel Boston potentially available, the Saints are poised to prioritize best player available, making Bell a possible but not guaranteed addition.

This episode dives deep into New Orleans Saints draft strategy, focusing especially on overlooked first-round options for the 2026 NFL Draft. The discussion kicks off with debates about wide receiver and edge rusher prospects who may not be getting enough attention but could be solid value picks, like Casey Concepcion and Akeem Mesidor. The group weighs the pros and cons of each, considering scheme fit, versatility, age, and team needs. There’s in-depth conversation about the Saints' current roster, recent quarterback signings, and how players’ past relationships or injuries impact their draft value. The hosts also reflect on the Saints’ young cornerback duo, their future potential, and the lingering impact of recent roster changes. Throughout, the episode highlights both the importance of positional value and internal development as the Saints look toward building a contender for the upcoming season.
