Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

Caleb Downs’ unexpected at No. 8 overall transforms the New Orleans Saints’ midweek mock draft from near disaster to a defensive win. The Ohio State safety, lauded for his elite vision and disruptive playmaking, fits perfectly into Brandon Staley’s defense alongside Justin Reid and Jonas Sanker.

The offensive rebuild continues with Oregon guard Emmanuel Pregnon and Georgia wide receiver Zachariah Branch, while mid-round picks like Alabama defensive tackle Tim Keenan III and Penn State running back Kaytron Allen bring versatility and breakout potential.

Late-round sleepers Nadame Tucker, Tacario Davis, and Houston tight end Tanner Kaziol add crucial depth and upside.

The New Orleans Saints should not pursue Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown and instead invest in young draft talent to build around Chris Olave. Salary cap flexibility, locker room culture, and future contract negotiations steer the debate, making this offseason’s wide receiver strategy a hot topic. Cost-controlled rookies like Jordyn Tyson, Carnell Tate, Elijah Sarratt, and Chris Bell could reshape the Saints’ offense without a blockbuster trade to disrupt their long-term plans.

QB Tyler Shough anchors New Orleans’ youth movement and offers flexibility amid roster-building challenges. With emerging stars like Devaughn Vele and promising defenders Chase Young, Jonas Sanker, and Kool-Aid McKinstry, the Saints have a foundation to attract top talent. Will they address interior offensive line and tight end depth in the draft or free agency? Plus, keep an eye on division rivals—Panthers running back Rico Dowdle might be looking for a new home and a revenge storyline.

The New Orleans Saints are primed to land a playmaker with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, sparking heated debate: should they prioritize a dynamic offensive weapon or bolster their defense? With prospects like Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey, Clemson’s Peter Woods, and Ohio State’s Caleb Downs on defense, alongside offensive standouts such as Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love, Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson and Ohio State’s Carnell Tate, the Saints’ direction remains wide open.

Day two and three of the draft promise equal intrigue, as New Orleans weighs waiting on second-round receiver options like Indiana’s Elijah Sarratt or Louisville’s Chris Bell, despite injury concerns.

Examining mid-round targets and the appeal of versatile tight ends like Max Klare and Michael Trigg. With Chris Olave’s All-Pro season highlighting the receiving corps’ potential, Saints fans have plenty to debate as offseason rumors heat up.

The New Orleans Saints may have saved their future with the successful pairing of head coach Kellen Moore and rookie quarterback Tyler Shough. Their surprising chemistry, accelerated development, and ability to break through modern NFL defensive trends mark a pivotal shift for New Orleans.

General manager Mickey Loomis earns praise for engineering a rebuild that revitalized the roster and exceeded low expectations, including hits like the Chase Young contract and a youth-driven draft class. Anchoring a rejuvenated Saints defense, new coordinator Brandon Staley quickly constructed a top-10 unit built around young standouts like Chase Young, Alontae Taylor, and Justin Reid,.

Tyler Shough’s sensational late-season surge earned him NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month honors, pushing the New Orleans Saints closer to a new chapter of offensive excitement. Shough’s clutch play—nearly 70% completion percentage, eight total touchdowns, and over 1,300 yards—helped secure the franchise’s third unbeaten December, raising the stakes for Offensive Rookie of the Year anticipation.

Meanwhile, Chase Young’s dominance earned him NFC Defensive Player of the Month, highlighted by 19 tackles, five sacks, and a game-changing fumble forced and returned for a touchdown against Titans rookie Cam Ward.

The New Orleans Saints are building serious momentum around second-year quarterback Tyler Shough, transforming him into a true magnet for top NFL free agents. With Kellen Moore and Mickey Loomis highlighting Shough as the franchise’s ultimate building block, the Saints’ cautious strategy in free agency and focus on the best player available in the draft fuel optimism for a dominant run in the NFC South.

Key questions surround retaining veterans like Cam Jordan and Demario Davis, rebooting the protection unit, and negotiating a critical extension for Chris Olave.

Confidence is surging in New Orleans as Saints general manager Mickey Loomis and head coach Kellen Moore present a united front, setting an ambitious tone for the offseason. The Saints’ optimism is fueled by key draft hits—rookie quarterback Tyler Shough’s emergence, Kelvin Banks Jr. anchoring the line, and standout performances from Jonas Sanker and Danny Stutsman.

After Chase Young’s impressive season and long-term commitment to New Orleans, and with the draft capital intact to bolster talent on both sides, Loomis and Moore are set on a path beyond mere competitiveness... they want to rule the division. Momentum and responsibility go hand in hand for this revitalized roster hungry for another shot at glory.

The Saints’ improved salary cap health positions the team for a transformative offseason in 2026, opening up real opportunities to solve long-standing roster issues. Strategic extensions and restructures—such as moves with Chris Olave, Juwan Johnson, and Alvin Kamara—could free up over $20 million, putting New Orleans in prime position for important investments.

With the offensive line a top priority, free agents like David Andrews and Ed Ingram highlight a potential overhaul, while depth pieces such as Tevin Jenkins and Luke Fortner present low-risk, high-reward upgrades. Running back Zach Charbonnet and wideout Romeo Doubs among promising options for bolstering playmaking ability. Even bigger questions loom around quarterback Spencer Rattler's future.
