Locked On Sun Devils - Daily Podcast On Arizona State Sun Devils Football & Basketball

Our friends over at FanDuel have provided their odds for Arizona State Sun Devils football in 2024. In year two of the Kenny Dillingham era, we hope to see some improvements across the board. Still, there shouldn't be extraordinarily high expectations for a program that has had consecutive three-win seasons. We definitely want to win more games in 2024 and FanDuel lists the Sun Devils over/under for wins at 4.5. FanDuel also has Arizona State Sun Devils football with the second-worst National Championship odds at +80,000. And to round out the Arizona State props, Jaden Rashada has the second-worst odds for winning the Heisman Trophy at +30,000. Host Richie Bradshaw looks deeper at these odds and how Arizona State Sun Devils football fairs on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

To the surprise of many, the Arizona State Sun Devils football program rolled out a more than competent defense in 2023. When looking at their 2022 counterparts, it was a night and day difference, with defensive coordinator Brian Ward at the forefront of all the positive changes. However, some of the key pieces to that unit, like B.J. Green, Jordan Clark, and Travion Brown are no longer with the program for various reasons. The Sun Devils have lost more than a handful of players defensively this offseason and will need guys to step up into bigger roles. There are some very important players returning, however, and they get their flowers here. Shamari Simmons will have a large role to take on as the leader of this defense in 2024, as will other veterans like Ed Woods, Caleb McCullough, and Anthonie Cooper. Some breakout players like Prince Dorbah and Clayton Smith will look to keep the pass rush moving, and youngsters like C.J. Fite and Tate Romney also have big shoes to fill. Host Richie Bradshaw ranks the most important returning players on defense for Arizona State Sun Devils football in 2024 on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

It's no secret that the Arizona State Sun Devils football program struggled to move the ball on offense in 2023. Between several injuries as well as adjustments to a new scheme under Kenny Dillingham, it's no wonder why the team looked as rough as it did in year one of the Dilly era. Still, several bright spots in the unit should be highlighted and given their flowers. Outside of the obvious stars like Elijhah Badger and Cameron Skattebo, Melquan Stovall, Leif Fautanu, Bryce Pierre, and others deserve recognition for their importance to the team entering 2024. Host Richie Bradshaw ranks the most important returning players on offense for Arizona State Sun Devils football in 2024 on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

Last season was a struggle for the Arizona State Sun Devils football program in more ways than one, and the injuries were at the forefront of all of it. Perhaps no unit saw more guys banged up throughout the year than the offensive line, which had a different starting five lineup for all 12 games. It decimated what the coaching staff believed was a two-deep group of players and became a major focus for the staff to get reinforcements for during the offseason. Kenny Dillingham spent no shortage of effort to add bodies and talented players both through the NCAA Transfer Portal as well as the 2024 recruiting class. After yesterday's addition of former Washington offensive tackle Jalen Klemm, there's never been a more appropriate time to talk about the new and improved offensive line than now. Host Richie Bradshaw believes there is a slew of talented and perhaps high-upside players like Klemm, Bram Walden, and Ben Coleman to pair up with a plethora of other guys. Perhaps the offensive line could become a major strength for the Arizona State Sun Devils football team in 2024. We discuss all of that and more on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast

Arizona State Sun Devils football has had back-to-back three-win seasons, including year one of the Kenny Dillingham era in 2023. Even so, there has been significant growth shown from 2022 to 2023 that, despite identical records, showed the growth as a program to have us feeling confident about the future and direction of this team. A three-win program rarely shows as much promise as the Sun Devils presented in 2023, but there is plenty there that can lead to more wins in 2024. A talented roster full of breakout candidates like Jaden Rashada and Clayton Smith is where it starts. Veteran returners like Elijhah Badger and Cameron Skattebo will help stabilize the team. The return of Jake Smith and Xavion Alford will be welcome additions. Key transfers like Raleek Brown and Cole Martin can steer this team in the right direction again. Stabilized play calling and chemistry will help, too. And as long as this team grows from year one of the Dilly era to year two and finds a way to finish games, Arizona State Sun Devils football will win more games than last season and may find themselves a winning record. Host Richie Bradshaw breaks it all down on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

As of late, Arizona State Sun Devils basketball is falling apart and they're doing it at the worst time possible. As of late, the Sun Devils have dropped six of their last seven, including a current four-game losing streak following home losses to Stanford and Cal. Things don't get any easier for Bobby Hurley's squad, which sits at 5-6 in PAC-12 conference play and 11-11 overall, with trips to Colorado and Utah on deck, as well as two games against Arizona down the road. It also doesn't help that Jose Perez was benched in the second half of Saturday's loss to Cal due to a coaching decision, leaving the team's ability to shoot in even more doubt. If the Sun Devils want to get into the NCAA Tournament and go dancing for March Madness, they need to turn things around quickly. Host Richie Bradshaw catches you up on Arizona State Sun Devils basketball on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

In their debut season to the Big 12 Conference, Arizona State Sun Devils football will have their work cut out for them to try and stand out amongst a myriad of talent programs. It's no secret that the Sun Devil were dealt a vastly difficult schedule that does them no favors when it comes to opposition and even road games. Still, as Kenny Dillingham has famously said, "Nobody feels sorry for you," and thus, ASU will need to overcome the challenge. After previewing the schedule from "easiest" to most difficult, host Richie Bradshaw looks at some of the most important games on Arizona State Sun Devils football's 2024 schedule. From a trip down to Tucson to battles with Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, among others, we discuss them all on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

Arizona State Sun Devils football has been dealt anything but an easy hand for their Big 12 Conference debut in 2024. The Sun Devils, who have had consecutive three-win seasons, will go up against some of the top teams in the conference including Oklahoma State and Kansas State, as well as some bitter former PAC-12 rivals in Utah and Arizona. Even beyond them, there remain some tough matchups from teams such as Texas Tech and BYU. Overall, Kenny Dillingham and the Arizona State Sun Devils football program have their work cut out for them if they plan to compete in 2024. Host Richie Bradshaw takes a look at the schedule to try and rank these games from easiest to hardest on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

The 2024 schedule has been released for Arizona State Sun Devils football and the program's debut into the Big 12 Conference is anything but an easy one. The Sun Devils are facing several 9+ win teams from last season, including previous opponents Oklahoma State and Arizona, and have some challenging road games slated. The season will be split into six home games and six away games to go along with two bye weeks placed after the first four games and the next three games after which. While the schedule has some daunting challenges for Arizona State Sun Devils football, there's still plenty to be excited about. The bottom line, however, is this is quite a difficult schedule, and Kenny Dillingham and the Sun Devils will have their hands full trying to be a team looking to rebound from back-to-back three-win seasons. Host Richie Bradshaw gives his initial reaction to the schedule and more on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, a local valley high school product, is headed to Super Bowl LVIII and former Arizona State Sun Devils football head coach Herm Edwards couldn't help but to stick his nose into something that has nothing to do with him. Purdy, who was selected with the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, played his high school ball at Perry in Gilbert, Arizona, and was a consensus three-star quarterback recruit. In what was Edwards' first season as the Sun Devils head coach, that 69-year-old TV personality claimed he recruited Purdy to Arizona State University but ultimately lost out to Iowa State. It has since come out that Edwards only offered Purdy to be a preferred walk-on for the program and that the interest in Purdy was not at all what Edwards painted it to be. Host Richie Bradshaw gives his two cents on Edwards' comments on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.
