Locked On Vandy – Daily Podcast on Vanderbilt University Commodores Football and Basketball

Vanderbilt Commodores face a critical turning point as Jared Curtis emerges as QB1, bringing elite arm talent and flashes of NFL-caliber play. Can Vanderbilt build on this momentum during the bye week, solve lingering identity issues, and unlock the full potential of a vertically aggressive offense? Key playmakers like Ja’Kory Thomas and tight end Jayvontay Conner are stepping up, while the offensive line and running game remain concerns for Tim Beck’s scheme.

The conversation focused on Vanderbilt’s need to find defensive answers, particularly at cornerback, where Martel Hight and Jordan Matthews have struggled against SEC receivers. The discussion explored key stats—Vanderbilt ranks 107th in total offense and 127th in rushing among FBS teams—while also considering lineup changes and integration of young talent for the season’s stretch run. Will Clark Lea’s squad find an identity and finish strong, or are more growing pains ahead for the Commodores?

Vanderbilt Commodores show signs of offensive life despite falling to Kentucky, as freshman quarterback Jared Curtis gets in rhythm and the play calling finally finds its groove. Is this the turning point the Vanderbilt offense has needed all season? Key moments include Curtis’ impressive 27-of-36, 247-yard, 2-touchdown performance, creative RPOs, and improved vertical concepts, though the run game’s 15-yard total raises big questions heading into the bye.

The conversation focused on the Commodores’ defensive woes, spotlighting Mason Lewis’ standout play but emphasizing issues with conceding too much space, lack of takeaways, and the unit’s overall inability to disrupt SEC opponents. Can Vanderbilt’s defense tighten up before the crucial matchup against Mississippi State, or will coaching changes become inevitable? The discussion explores possible fixes, the importance of developing a competent ground attack, and what the Commodores must address before their next SEC test.

Vandy was in control early, but everything fell apart right before halftime and Kentucky jumped all over it. Lack of defense, turnovers, & penalties ONCE AGAIN kill any chance of a victory for Vanderbilt.

Vanderbilt Commodores’ struggles reach a new low after a disheartening loss to Arkansas. Can head coach Clark Lea and quarterback Jared Curtis find answers before the season slips away? Corey Burton breaks down Vanderbilt’s glaring issues—highlighting confusion on offense, a faltering offensive line, and a defense that looks lost under defensive coordinator Steve Gregory. As penalties pile up and the team’s identity crisis deepens, hopes for another win are rapidly fading.

Key talking points include Curtis’s challenges adapting to Tim Beck’s system, the offensive line’s shocking decline despite portal additions, and Vanderbilt’s inability to establish intensity on either side of the ball. Burton questions whether it’s time for major changes, from reshuffling the coaching staff to giving younger players a shot. With Kentucky looming and little optimism in sight, the Commodores’ season hangs in the balance. Can this team salvage any momentum, or is wholesale change inevitable?

Vanderbilt didn't have many answers for the Arkansas Razorbacks in a 31-21 home loss. This snaps a 14 game SEC losing streak for the Hogs. 2 INT for Jared Curtis, including 1 for a TD, but the story of the game was Arkansas Dominated Vanderbilt at the Line of Scrimmage. Clark Lea and the Commodores are searching for answers.
