Locked On Wild - Your Daily Minnesota Wild Podcast

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Seth evaluates the 2020-21 season for Joel Eriksson Ek. What progress did JEEK made from last year to this season? He made a noticable improvement offensively and helped create the Wild's dominant defensive pairing with Jordan Greenway and Marcus Foligno. What do the stats tell us about his play? What did we see ourselves that we liked? Most importantly, what can Eriksson Ek do to improve in 2021-22? For Eriksson Ek it comes down to seeing another step up in his play next year. Can his line continue to frustrate top opposing players? Is JEEK a potential 30 goal scorer during an 82 game season? What will his contract extension look like?

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Seth answers a ton of submitted questions. We start by looking at the potential for Kirill Kaprizov to sign a shorter contract and if the Wild need to potentially trade him or risk him leaving via free agency and getting nothing in return. On that note we look at other examples of when Minnesota teams tried to trade a star on his way out and got little to nothing in return. We also look at potential players that Seth wants to give Seattle in the Expansion Draft, including Zach Parise and Victor Rask. We look at potential center targets for the Wild, including Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. We also look at Eric Staal's legacy in Minnesota, and how he finished in a similar spot to Mikko Koivu except from an offensive perspective (expected to be on a higher line than he should have been). And we finish by discussing the most attractive players on the Wild roster, and sorry Kevin Fiala tops the list.

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Seth evaluates the 2020-21 season for Kevin Fiala. What start by looking at the progress Fiala made from last year to this season? What do the stats tell us about his play? What did we see ourselves that we liked? Most importantly, what can Fiala do to improve in 2021-22? Fiala had points where it seemed like he was pressing, or trying to do to much. Would a move to Kirill Kaprizov's line be the best move for the Wild long term? Will improved linemates help level out Kevin's play next season?

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Seth recaps the season series against St. Louis, Vegas and Colorado. The Wild struggled the most against St. Louis in the 2021 season. We attempt to find ways the Wild can improve next season, and look at how Kaapo Kahkonen especially struggled against the Blues this year. On offense no one really stood out in the season series, but the Wild did get some nice play from Nico Sturm. The penalty kill will need a lot of improvement against the Blues next year.

Against the Golden Knights, the Wild were pretty evenly matched across the board. Kaapo Kahkonen and Cam Talbot both played well against Vegas, and Kirill Kaprizov had a very nice series against the Golden Knights in the regular season. Marc-Andre Fleury kept the Golden Knights in it almost every game he played, and the Wild just need to keep up their strong play heading into next year. Against the Avalanche, both goalies struggled and the Wild couldn't keep Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog quiet the entire series.

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Seth recaps the season series against the Los Angeles Kings and Arizona Coyotes. We look at the top performers against the Kings, including Kirill Kaprizov again and Joel Eriksson Ek. We find an interesting note that Ryan Hartman did not have a single point in the season series against the Kings. Los Angeles also dominated the Wild's Penalty Kill all series long. Wild goaltending was great in this series as well, and most of the games were close throughout the year.

Against Arizona, the Wild got great play from Mats Zuccarello, Kirill Kaprizov (again) and Kevin Fiala. The Coyotes could not crack Cam Talbot or Kaapo Kahkonen, managing only 12 goals in the 8 games played. Of the teams in the West, the Coyotes were the ones the Wild dominated the most.

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Seth recaps the season series against the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks. We look at the top performers against the Ducks, including Kirill Kaprizov and Jared Spurgeon. We find an interesting note that the Ducks did not have a single Power Play goal in the season series, and while John Gibson and Ryan Miller didn't play particularly poorly, Cam Talbot and Kaapo Kahkonen were just better.

Against San Jose, the Wild got great play from Zach Parise, Kevin Fiala, Kirill Kaprizov and Mats Zuccarello. The Sharks were able to score more against the Wild than the ducks were, but the Wild increased their scoring as well to win the season series. It was mostly former Wild players who did the damage against the Wild in Ryan Donato and Brent Burns.

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we begin with a dramatic reading of the Herb Brooks speech from Miracle to get everyone properly amped up for Game 7. We also hear from Joel Eriksson Ek and Dean Evason on what it means to get to this point and to play in a "win or go home" situation. We look at what the Wild need to do offensively to get off to a hot start against Marc-Andre Fleury and put pressure on the Golden Knights. We look at why it's vital for Kirill Kaprizov and Kevin Fiala to help push the tempo from puck drop. We look at how the Wild can replicate their defensive formula from Game 6 to once again put the clamps on the Golden Knights. We also discuss how Cam Talbot can take the series into his own hands once again. And finally we give predictions for what happens tonight, with Seth of course predicting a Wild win. It's Game 7 time!!!!!

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Seth recaps the Wild's 3-0 win over the Golden Knights to send their series to a winner take all Game 7. We start with some audio from Kevin Fiala on finally breaking through for his first goal in the series. We also hear from Ryan Hartman about how the team has been able to respond with their backs against the wall. We also hear from Marcus Foligno and Cam Talbot on the Vegas goal that was waived off due to goalie interference. We look at the most impressive defensive effort in the series so far, and how Cam Talbot has put up equally as impressive numbers as Marc-Andre Fleury in the series. We hand out the Three Stars of the Night, with props going to Nick Bjugstad, Kevin Fiala and Cam Talbot. We also finish by discussing the Matt Boldy situation, and Seth looks at the potential lineup juggling his addition would require while also suggesting he should play. Game 7 here we come!
