In this Podcast you will hear ARC ask Albert Rooyakkers the CEO of Bedrock Automation critical questions about how a control system can be secure and open at the same time. ARC goes on to ask Albert Rooyakkers how modern control systems configure the required process control functions and how standards like IEC 61131 and IEC 61499 apply to develop new re-usable control algorithms. In addition, ARC asks Albert how system software updates can be made while the control system is running a process that must be kept operational and Albert describes how that can happen.

Vehicle Electrification has been gaining serious momentum lately for personal and commercial vehicles alike. Fleets are electrifying to reduce TCO, improve driver/customer experience, and comply with regulation. Private drivers mostly charge their vehicles at home, but rely on public charging networks to extend their range. Networks and fleets alike use software solutions to effectively manage and optimize energy use, diagnose charger issues, and more. In this episode, Doron Frenkel, Founder and CEO of Driivz, shares what his company has learned in bringing its charging management software solution to the world.

Transportation accounts for more emissions than any other sector in Western economies, and has proven more challenging to clean up than power generation. Vehicle electrification is taking off for light and medium duty ground vehicles, but heavy ground transport and aviation engines bring higher workloads than batteries currently economically provide. Renewable drop-in fuels made from waste materials is one promising solution, and Finnish refiner Neste is a leader iIn this episode, ARC Transportation Analyst Eduard Fidler explores the current state, challenges, and scale-up potential of renewable fuels with Sami Jauhiainen, VP in Renewable Aviation and Andreas Teir, VP in Renewable Road Transport at Neste.n the space.

Addressing the crucial issue of cybersecurity in today’s smart buildings is a challenge. Like the manufacturing sector, the building automation sector is going through its own digital transformation. Increasingly, end-users are moving away from the older proprietary systems of the past and adopting edge-to-cloud computing architectures. There is a drive to deploy more lower-cost sensors, both wired and wireless, to gather as much data as possible. At the same time, the industry has a considerable installed base of legacy building automation systems, applications, devices, and networks that must be managed, maintained, and gradually modernized.
All of these factors create unique cybersecurity challenges. The ubiquitous connectivity and remote operations promised by IoT bring with it many security concerns. Legacy systems pose their own risks and vulnerabilities and are no longer the obscure systems that nobody is interested in anymore. Attackers take advantage of known vulnerabilities in both new and existing systems to disrupt operations, steal customer data, and cause destruction.
