Longbox Heroes

This week, we’ve got a brand new idea for a comic con, DC trying had to get their new books in your hands, a follow up to a three plus year long industry wide lawsuit and late books. And their effects on all of us. Beckie tells tale of a very special Nick Fury Christmas in this week’s My Walk Down Lois Lane, What We Read Last Week, talking Airwave’s fate, Star Sapphire’s powers, putting respect on Woner Woman’s name and how to make a horror comic work, What We’re Looking Forward to This Week, Todd & Joe Have Issue re-read of Gail Simone’s Secret Six tells tale of a jape in jammies descent into saneness, discussion of the first two episodes of the new Star wars/Disney Plus show, Skeleton Crew and so much more!

This week, we look at the full slate of Free Comic Book Day 2025 offerings and investigate Twisted Comics, compare Predator crossing over with other Marvel characters as opposed to other movie properties in comics, Boom losing two big licensed properties and more Diamond woes. We also remind you of some Final Order Cut Off dates for two books we think you’ll not want to miss! Beckie revisits Israel Waldman, his cohorts Sol Brodsky and Al Heweston in this week’s My Walk Down Lois Lane, What We Read Last Week, talking the fun and frivolity of slashers in Kyle Starks latest offering, What We’re Looking Forward to This Week, Todd & Joe Have Issue re-read of Gail Simone’s Secret Six crosses over with Doom Patrol, we talk Todd’s pick for overrated stories and should the Doom Patrol just go back to Vertigo already, the schedule change for Star Wars Skeleton Crew and so much more!

The groundwork is being laid for Free Comic Book Day 2025 with more Energon universe, the 10th anniversary of I Hate Fairyland, the shared Godzilla and more. Plus, when a distributor drops you, it must be bad and how does Into the Spider-Verse relate to the Mooninite Panic of 2007? Beckie takes a detour in My Walk Down Lois Lane to talk Israel Waldman’s Super Comics. Then, in What We Read Last Week, did Doom send Spidey to do his light work and why is Absolute Bruce Wayne hanging out with so many baddies? What We’re Looking Forward to This Week, Todd & Joe Have Issue re-read of Gail Simone’s Secret Six crosses over with Action Comics (Go buy Gail’s Red Sonja novel, out now!) and so much more!

Beckie tells more stories of Super Kitty in My Walk Down Lois Lane. Then, in What We Read Last Week, Saga hits the part of the arc where things start to fall apart, JSA focuses on the kids and what has been the best DC Absolute book so far, What We’re Looking Forward to This Week, Todd & Joe Have Issue re-read of Gail Simone’s Secret Six wraps up the gang’s adventures in Skartaris, a LONG, spoiler filled discussion of the season finale of HBO Max’s Penguin and so much more!

Light news week, but we discuss the passing of a bona fide art legend and what he’d been up to prior to his passing and maybe we conspire to use James Gunn’s goodwill for our own good? Beckie laments not being able to sell an organ in this week’s My Walk Down Lois Lane. Then, in What We Read Last Week, is Poison Ivy/Swamp Thing a stealth Vertigo book and does Joe Kelly REALLY need to use Rek-Rap in his Amazing Spider-Man run? What We’re Looking Forward to This Week, Todd & Joe Have Issue re-read of Gail Simone’s Secret Six inspires more Secret Six McFarlane Toys variants, talk of two part series finale of Disney Plus’s Agatha All Along and HBO Max’s Penguin and so much more!

A light news week sees DC try to get us olds to double dip just because of a logo change, the real reason why that Hickman Wolverine book is late and an update on the 1982 DC Style Guide. Beckie has candy opportunities and marrying the dead in this week’s My Walk Down Lois Lane. Then, in What We Read Last Week, we get new creative teams on Nightwing and Detective Comics and the next Absolute book, Wonder Woman is here, can it deliver? What We’re Looking Forward to This Week, Todd & Joe Have Issue re-read of Gail Simone’s Secret Six gets us off on a tangent about Amanda Waller, talk of Disney Plus’s Agatha All Along and HBO Max’s Penguin and so much more!

The post Longbox Heroes episode 733: If the Force Was Real appeared first on Longbox Heroes.

Another big news week, with the history of pulping Amalgam comics, big success for the Absolute line, late books and this time it’s not DC to blame, J Michael Straczynski leaves Cap of his own accord for some big, crazy ideas and more comics coming in 2025 from our favorite creators. Plus, Todd is heading to New York Comic Con this weekend and Joe is jealous! Beckie talks some of the darker, more forgotten romance comics of the 40’s in My Walk Down Lois Lane. Then, in What We Read Last Week, Absolute Batman changes things enough, but not too much, Action Comics gives off real the Substance vibes, Fantastic Four pairs up the least likely family members and who the easiest and hardest characters to write, not well or good, but just in general. What We’re Looking Forward to This Week pays off a four and a half year story arc, Todd & Joe Have Issue re-read of Gail Simone’s Secret Six puts the gang in the wild west for some reason, talk of Disney Plus’s Agatha All Along and HBO Max’s Penguin and so much more!

Then, in What We Read Last Week, Absolute Power wraps up, Joe figures out how to read DC All In Special wrong and Hyde Street gets horror anthology right, or at least different, What We’re Looking Forward to This Week, Todd & Joe Have Issue re-read of Gail Simone’s Secret Six gives up a John Ostrander fill in story, talk of Disney Plus’s Agatha All Along and HBO Max’s Penguin and so much more!

DC and Marvel can no longer sue people over the use of ‘Super Hero.’ What does this mean? We try to figure it out. Plus, is the permeation of horror movies in popular culture birthing more and more horror imprints in comics? We try and figure this out as well. Beckie defends being bald and having as 12-pack in My Walk Down Lois Lane. Then, in What We Read Last Week, Lobo gains some pathos and what hurt us the most in the latest Saga, What We’re Looking Forward to This Week, Todd & Joe Have Issue re-read of Gail Simone’s Secret Six wraps up arguable the best story arc to date, talk of Disney Plus’s Agatha All Along and HBO Max’s Penguin and so much more!
