Better Black Health with Dr. Greg Hall welcomes Akil Marshall, a nationally recognized leader and innovator in arts education, culturally responsive teaching, and social-emotional learning, with many years of experience in the education field. He is the author of five books, with his most recent being "Winning In America: The High 5 Model for American Education." He played professional football and served as the first strength and fitness coach for the NBA. Additionally, he was the first African-American male to host an exercise and fitness television show in the United States. Akil has received numerous awards, including the 2006 Dr.. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award, presented by the Cleveland Orchestra and the Greater Cleveland Partnership. He is the founder of Winning In America, ABC123 Kids Express, Dance Afrika Dance, and Fit 4 Success 365—four innovative, rapidly growing programs aimed at all K-12 at-risk urban students in public and charter schools. Finally, Mr. Marshall is the CEO of The Akil Marshall Organization, based in Cleveland, Ohio, which develops and oversees these impactful programs.
