In this episode, we talk with Jeff Spain,Workforce Solutions Senior Consultant at Columbus State Community College's Workforce Innovations.
During our previous podcasts, we have often discussed the importance of job seekers “learning something new”. In today’s economy, there is continuous change – tasks change, responsibilities change, equipment changes – we have to be willing to, able to and embrace change!
And with those changes come new ideas/skills/experiences that may require a worker to learn. So when our mature job seekers are in their job search, we also talk to them about learning which can be in many different forms – not just a classroom.
Jeff covers how important continuing education is in your continued career path. Columbus State Community College addresses three different workforce students:
Emerging Workforce - students
Incumbent Workforce - currently employed, and whose skills need to grow
Transitional Workforce - mature workers in declining industries or who are changing careers
Jeff also speaks about what "workforce innovations" means now, and the various ways CSCC works with the Transitional Workforce.
