For the entire year of 1989, as Flair had classic matches with Steamboat and Funk, the commentators consistently let us know that it would be Sting or Luger that would take WCW into 1990. History has revealed that, for Flair, it was always going to be Sting. And yet, as the NWA slowly fades into WCW, and as early 1990 brings on new characters and a more entertainment-based product, an injury to Sting prevents his challenging Ric Flair for the world title at Wrestle War '90.

Absent Sting, WCW calls on Lex Luger. But Flair continues his campaign to never drop the title to Luger. Thus, in the background of Wrestle War 1990 is what WCW wanted to foreground: Sting's Revenge.

This week, The Doc scales it back a bit.  A little underwhelmed by the non-tournament part of the Survivor Series build, he abandons his typical 5-star Preview format to touch merely on a few bullet points, then refocuses his attention on the Survivor Series tournament to crown a new WWE Champion.  Last week, Doc talked about his ideal scenario; this week, he'll discuss what he feels is the most realistic one and how it will impact next April's WrestleMania card.
