¡Hola Hiver! Hoy te traigo un nuevo episodio del podcast Vacía tu bandeja después de algunos meses parado.
En el episodio de hoy vuelvo a un tema que ya he tratado en más de un episodio, un tema recurrente, que son Los hábitos. Para mí es algo que tengo muy presente en mi día a día, por eso vuelvo a ello siempre.
Desde que leí El poder de los hábitos de Charles Dughi, libro con el que pude aprender el funcionamiento del hábito y, por tanto, pude comprender en muchas ocasiones mi comportamiento, y conseguí unas herramientas para poder crear nuevos hábitos a conciencia, e incluso modificar aquellos que no me gustaban, fue un antes y un después. Me abrió un mundo de posibilidades, he hizo que profundizara más en este tema.
Más tarde vendría la lectura de Hábitos atómicos de James Clear, que vino a darle una vuelta de tuerca a lo anterior. Y que además te da una parte más práctica para trabajar sobre los hábitos.
Ambos libros muy recomendados.
Lo cierto es que en los últimos años me he dedicado a trabajar mis hábitos y que realmente he conseguido buenos resultados en muchas ocasiones. Sin embargo, a pasar de conocer bien la teoría, llevarla a la práctica no es tan fácil, por lo menos para mí. Depende del hábito que quieres crear o modificar, es más o menos costoso. Porque no solo depende de tener un método, hay muchas cosas que nos influyen, algunas externas, pero otras son internas. Nosotros mismos nos boicoteamos y muchas veces sin darnos cuenta.
Esto produce que haya hábitos que no consigamos instaurar de forma sólida. Y que nos pasemos la vida intentándolo. Como si estuviéramos metidos en una rueda.
Las causas son varias, y seguro que diferentes para cada uno. Pero yo me quiero centrar en dos:
Veamos un poco más en detalle.
La mente y las emociones no van a la par
Normalmente cuando decides crear un hábito es producto de una situación que tienes que has de cambiar o una situación que quieres tener. Y que nos ha llevado a tomar una decisión al respecto.
Unas veces, parte de ideas, vas aprendiendo cosas, te vas desarrollando como persona y vas tomando conciencia de tu vida. Todo esto hace que te convenzas de que necesitas hacer algunos cambios, y para que esos cambios se produzcan has de desarrollar unos hábitos. Hasta aquí todo perfecto, pero lo que pasa es que unas veces la toma de conciencia, y ese convencimiento se queda en una idea grabada en tu cabeza, y otras traspasa la idea y llegas a sentir que realmente ha de ser así. Te implicas emocionalmente. Y aquí está la clave. Cuando no ocurre esto, los hábitos que intentamos consolidad se nos hacen cuesta arriba.
A mí me ha costado llegar a entender esto. Siempre he pensado que si yo lo tenía claro, y cambiaba las ideas que tenía, y llegas a cambiar tu forma de pensar, tendría que poder hacerlo. Y me he centrado mucho en ser racional, pero esa no es la realidad y de un tiempo para acá es que me doy cuenta. No solo basta con pensarlo, con decidirlo hay que creerlo y sentirlo. Y evidentemente es algo que se tiene que trabajar.
Llegar a esta conclusión es muy positivo porque puedo ir un paso más allá y cambiar o corregir los errores que vengo realizando y trabajar en la línea correcta los hábitos.
La obsesión de no fallar
Veamos ahora este otro punto, la obsesión de no fallar. Porque es así, te obsesionas. Y aquí me viene a la mente un artículo que escribí hace unas semanas sobre el tracker de hábitos, en el que hacía referencia a que muchas veces la herramienta que utilizamos para hacer el seguimiento de nuestros hábitos se convierte en el disparador, ese querer tachar juega en nuestra contra.
Lo que hay que tener claro es que esto es una carrera de fondo. Hay que olvidarse un poco de los 21 días para conseguir un hábito y de sentirse mal o abandonar por no poder realizarlo cada día. Esto es muy importante, todos no somos iguales, la motivación no es la misma ni vivimos la misma realidad. Esto nunca hay que perderlo de vista y no hay que andar comparándose.
Lo que hay que hacer es creer en ti, que lo vas a lograr, diseñar una buena rutina y ambiente que te ayude y ser persistente.
La Regla de los 2 días
Cuando estamos trabajando un hábito, días en los que vamos a fallar los va a haber seguro. Es algo normal y no pasa nada. Lejos de sentirnos mal, hemos de reforzarnos y esta herramienta, la regla de los 2 días, nos puede ayudar a ello. Fue inventada por Matt D'Avella
¿En qué consiste? Es muy sencillo. Se basa en el principio de no fallar 2 días seguidos. Hoy fallé, pero mañana vuelvo. Soy constante y me concentro en seguir esto, en ese segundo día no fallar, y ponérmelo fácil para ello. No importa si un día fallo, no te quedes ahí, lo importante es que al día siguiente sigo y con más ganas incluso.
Si sigues esta regla, no te sentirás mal y con el tiempo asentarás tu hábito. No importa todos aquellos días que has fallado, lo que te ha llevado al éxito es haber seguido al día siguiente.
Hay personas que utilizan esta técnica de otra manera y lo que hacen es planificar descansos de tal manera que siempre tengan mínimo 2 días seguidos de hábito. También puede valer, pero prefiero la anterior.
Yo te invito a usar esta técnica porque seguro que te va a ayudar. Cuentame si ya la conocías y en general como sueles reaccionar los días en los que fallas y no realizas tu hábito.

In today's episode I return to a topic that I have already discussed in more than one episode, a recurring theme, which is Habits. For me it's something that is very present in my day to day life, that's why I always come back to it.
Since I read The Power of Habits by Charles Dughi, a book with which I was able to learn how habits work and, therefore, I was able to understand my behaviour on many occasions, and I got some tools to be able to consciously create new habits, and even modify those that I didn't like, it was a before and after. It opened up a world of possibilities for me, and made me go deeper into this subject.
Later on, I read James Clear's Atomic Habits, which gave a new twist to the above. And it also gives you a more practical part to work on habits.
Both books are highly recommended.
The truth is that in the last few years I have dedicated myself to working on my habits and I have really achieved good results on many occasions. However, despite knowing the theory well, putting it into practice is not so easy, at least for me. It depends on the habit you want to create or modify, it is more or less expensive. Because it doesn't only depend on having a method, there are many things that influence us, some external, but others are internal. We ourselves boycott ourselves, often without realising it.
This leads to habits that we do not manage to establish in a solid way. And we spend our lives trying. As if we were stuck in a wheel.
And why does this happen?
There are several causes, and I'm sure they are different for everyone. But I want to focus on two:

The mind and emotions do not go hand in hand
Normally when you decide to create a habit it is a product of a situation that you have to change or a situation that you want to have. And that has led us to make a decision about it.
Sometimes it starts from ideas, you learn things, you develop as a person and you become more aware of your life. All this makes you realise that you need to make some changes, and for those changes to take place you have to develop some habits. So far so perfect, but what happens is that sometimes the awareness, and that conviction remains an idea engraved in your head, and sometimes it goes beyond the idea and you come to feel that it really has to be like that. You get emotionally involved. And this is the key. When this doesn't happen, the habits we are trying to consolidate become difficult.
I have had a hard time understanding this. I always thought that if I was clear about it, and I changed the ideas I had, and you get to change the way you think, I should be able to do it. And I've focused a lot on being rational, but that's not the reality, and it's only recently that I've realised that. It's not just enough to think it, to decide it, you have to believe it and feel it. And obviously it is something that has to be worked on.
Reaching this conclusion is very positive because I can go a step further and change or correct the mistakes I've been making and work on habits along the right lines.
The obsession not to fail
Let's look at this other point, the obsession not to fail. Because that's how it is, you become obsessed. And here comes to mind an article I wrote a few weeks ago about the habit tracker, in which I made reference to the fact that many times the tool we use to track our habits becomes the trigger, that wanting to cross out plays against us.
What we have to be clear about is that this is a long-distance race. We have to forget a bit about the 21 days to achieve a habit and about feeling bad or giving up for not being able to do it every day. This is very important, we are not all the same, our motivation is not the same and we do not live the same reality. We must never lose sight of this and we must never compare ourselves.
What you have to do is believe in yourself, that you are going to achieve it, design a good routine and environment to help you and be persistent.
The 2-Day Rule
When we are working on a habit, there are bound to be days when we fail. It's normal and that's OK. Far from feeling bad, we have to reinforce ourselves and this tool, the 2 day rule, can help us to do so. It was invented by Matt D'Avella
How does it work? It is very simple. It is based on the principle of not failing 2 days in a row. I failed today, but I'll be back tomorrow. I'm consistent and I focus on following this, on that second day not to fail, and make it easy for myself to do it. It doesn't matter if one day I fail, don't stay there, the important thing is that the next day I continue and with even more desire.
If you follow this rule, you won't feel bad and with time you will establish your habit. No matter how many days you have failed, what has led you to success is to have continued the next day.
There are people who use this technique in a different way and what they do is to plan breaks in such a way that they always have at least 2 consecutive days of the habit. It can also work, but I prefer the previous one.
