Too often people find themselves harboring bitterness or resentment for an offense committed against them (either real or perceived). But holding a grudge can be personally destructive and God encourages us to forgive "as the Lord has forgiven you" (Col. 3:13). That's not always easy, but it is vitally necessary so that bitterness and resentment don't take us captive. In Mark 6, there is a story about a woman named Herodias who held a grudge so deeply that it ultimately led to the execution of John the Baptist, and it was all because she wanted revenge.
