Some people might consider humans inherently valuable, but what designates value? We know gold and platinum are coveted and revered due to rarity but what else gives something value?

I would argue that the contribution of any person or thing makes it useful and when we look at contribution on a large enough scale we see that our species is slowly devolving into non-contributional beings.
