This week we are highlighting the Represent Asian Project, a news site and media organization that is centered around highlighting Asian voices. It was started by a group of Asian Canadian and Asian American women who are “passionate about celebrating, advocating and elevating Asian representation in various fields.”
One of the key reasons we are seeing a spike in Asian hate crimes is because the Asian American and Asian Canadian experience are not normalized in the media. We don’t hear their voices. We don’t hear their stories. And we don’t hear their issues. There is no justice in silence. Representation matters and that’s why these women created this site. They wanted to see and hear stories of people who looked them. That is why I encourage all of you to check out their website and follow them on Instagram @representAsianproject. There you can find positive stories about Asians in the media. Share their posts. Draw attention and uplift their voices.
