  • Episode 20- Ringo Starr's CROOKED BOY E.P.

Hosted by Gil McLean.  Welcome to a special mini-Episode 20.

For the last few years, in lieu of albums, Ringo Starr has been releasing EPs. To be honest, I haven't tracked a lot of the songs down because there has been a sameness and slickness to Ringo's productions since the turn of the decade of the 20s.

So I'd been hearing all this talk about how Ringo's latest EP, entitled CROOKED BOY, is a real "comeback" of sorts, or what you might call a return to form. So I decided to check it out- in real time- for anyone who wants to listen. My conclusion- the hype is not just hype and I think there is stuff on here to enjoy.

    "February Sky"
    "Adeline"
    "Gonna Need Someone"

  • Episode 18- Same Title, Different Song

Hosted by Gil McLean- This is a podcast for music lovers who are fans of the Beatles and the Beach Boys to discover some new sounds or rediscover some old sounds of artists highly influenced by both of these bands-- with, typically,  maybe a track or two in there from the originals themselves. This is Episode 17 and I have a different idea for this show. Here are the songs...

    "Wouldn't It Be Nice?"
    "Love Me Do"
    "Dance, Dance, Dance"
    "I Need You"
    "Break Away"
    "Every Little Thing"
    "California Girls"
    "When I Get Home"
    "Darlin'"
    "Hold Me Tight"
    "Friends"
    "Tell Me Why"
    "God Only Knows"

You're thinking to yourself... "Oh, Gil is just playing a bunch of Beatles and Beach Boys songs"-- au contraire! Despite the familiarity of these titles, they are NOT Beatles and Beach Boys songs... so listen up!

  • Episode 16- Ostensibly Irish

Hosted by Gil McLean- Welcome to Episode 16. This is ordinarily a podcast for music lovers who are fans of music and bands influenced by the Beatles & Beach Boys... but for the second episode in a row, I am going specialty.

My original intent was to focus on a bunch of Irish Music for this episode in honor of March and St. Patrick's Day, as well as discuss the various Celtic/Irish influences that made their way into the solo careers of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Well, I got to the latter, but the former went off the rails a little bit.

Well this just gives me an excuse to do another Irish Episode next year!
