The stereotype perpetuated is that black women are less approachable and accommodating as well as more guarded and demanding.  Yet, there are so many other factors to take into consideration when discussing the black woman’s love journey in America.  Candace shares with listeners how her upbringing in Dayton, Ohio impacted her definition of love and past relationships.  Although one episode is not enough to fully address such a complex issue, insight and remedies are offered in hopes of inspiring.

PART 2: [TRIGGER ADVISORY]

On a special two-part episode of Love By Candace, Candace speaks with her cousin & special guest retired U.S. Marine, Jason Spears about some of the harsh realities of military service.  Jason retired as a Gunnery Sergeant after 20 years of service and four combat tours to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Jason shares the reality of how extended periods away from home and surviving in a war zone affects one’s mental, physical and spiritual health.  This has a direct impact on all relationships, including children and spouses.  Candace and Jason discuss his battle with PTSD and depression which led to suicidal thoughts.  Jason shares how he sought support through counseling and encourages others to do the same.
