What does your fitness have to do with your confidence, your relationship, and even your sex life? More than you might think.
On this episode of Love Liaisons, Kathryn and Marina sit down with physical performance coach Gal Yefet for a candid and sometimes provocative conversation about fitness, relationships, body changes, confidence, intimacy, nutrition, boundaries, and supporting your partner.
Gal shares how fitness can become about much more than appearance. For many people, becoming stronger physically can build confidence, change how they see themselves, and give them the courage to make changes in other areas of their lives. He even shares the story of a former client whose fitness journey helped her develop the confidence to start dating—and ultimately find her partner.
But what happens when your partner isn't supportive of your changing body?
We talk openly about weight gain, menopause, long-term relationships, body criticism, attraction, and the damage that judgment can cause. Gal emphasizes that couples should approach health as a team—not as one partner policing or criticizing the other. The goal isn't judgment. It's support, shared goals, and progress.
And then we get into the topic many couples may be thinking about but aren't always comfortable discussing: sex and intimacy.
Can physical strength, stamina, mobility, and overall fitness influence intimacy? Gal explains how maintaining strength and mobility as we age can help us stay physically capable and engaged with our partners. But the conversation also goes deeper: when intimacy changes, don't automatically assume fitness is the problem. Attraction, resentment, mood, communication, and sexual connection may all need to be explored.
In this episode, we explore:
- 💪 Fitness and confidence: Why feeling stronger can change how you see yourself
- ❤️ Fitness and relationships: How health habits can affect long-term partnerships
- 🔥 Fitness and intimacy: The role of strength, stamina, mobility, and energy in your sex life
- 👫 Supporting your partner: Why encouragement works better than criticism
- 🌿 Menopause and body changes: How life transitions can affect fitness and relationships
- 🚩 Body shaming and judgment: What happens when a partner becomes critical of your body
- 🗣️ Boundaries: Learning to say “stop” when criticism crosses a line
- 🧠 The mind-body connection: How stress, emotions, confidence, and physical health intersect
- 🥗 Nutrition and emotional eating: Looking honestly at what we eat without shame
- 📈 Progress over perfection: Why small, consistent changes can make a bigger difference than trying to change everything at once
- 🤝 Knowing when you need help: When a fitness coach, therapist, or sex therapist may each have a different role
One of our biggest takeaways:
Don't get fit just to keep your partner. Get stronger for yourself.
Your body is not a project for someone else to criticize. A healthy relationship should be a partnership where both people support each other's goals, respect boundaries, and celebrate progress.
As Gal puts it, the shift is from judging to supporting.
And when it comes to relationships, fitness isn't a magic solution. Sometimes the issue isn't physical at all—and that's when honest communication and the right professional support can make all the difference.
So grab your wine, tea, or coffee and join us for a conversation about getting stronger, feeling more confident, loving your body, supporting your partner—and maybe keeping a little more spark in your relationship along the way.
