And, can they hear you?

TAWVN sits down with Timothy and tells us who she’s speaking to.

She’s speaking to The Inbetweeners. Are you an Inbetweener? We also discover that Timothy is an Inbetweener himself.

“There’s no one way to be African, there’s no one way to be ‘Black’. And, I want to lean into that thinking and understanding, and promote the exploration of different ways to be African and Black where we as African people self-determine and decide for ourselves once more who we are, who we want to be, and where we want to go.”

Toovarn? Tuhvarn? Tavern? Torn? Tawan? The One? What’s with the name?

TAWVN speaks to Timothy about her identity and the journeys she’s embarked on to find her truest and highest self.

We hear and see her growth and shedding of false selves in her music through time, but we also learn that the catalyst to her evolution is always her ancestors, uMvelinqangi, and the whole pantheon of Zulu gods.

She’s a nerd, she’s a Griot; she’s many things, maybe all things, in One.

I’m Here. And, I have something to say.

We hit the ground running with Timothy interviewing TAWVN about her experiences with colonisation and how this has affected her identity.

TAWVN touches on the philosophy of uBuntu and African Matriarchy. And, Timothy shares the contrasts that he sees between the West’s concern with “I” and the African concern with “We”.

I meeeean what’s she like?

TAWVN and Timothy deep dive into some fun questions to break the ice in getting to know who she is. We tap into why she has an affinity for 1 am, what her pet peeve is, what her creative process is like, and also share a chuckle about the tug of war between United States Black Twitter and South African Black Twitter…and wigs.

Being connected to Love has made TAWVN feel connected to Life.

“I want to Live. And, live deliberately this time.” - TAWVN

In this journey that we’re about to embark on, TAWVN and Timothy Maurice Webster, a 4-time bestselling behavioural psychology author, explore the deep interconnectedness that she has with her Music, the soil, the Universe, the Earth, and the deepest parts of her Soul.

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, to discover that I had not lived.

I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and to be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion.”

You have the right to belong to yourself.

You have the right to remain yours. Or in other words, TAWVN would also say in isiZulu “Ungowakho ulithemba lakho.”

A Grandmother's Love, the abundance of Joy.

Does pain and strife have to come before goodness and joy?

Love has made TAWVN strong, but we’re not talking about any old type of love, we’re talking about the love of an African Grandmother, a Zulu Grandmother. TAWVN’s grandmother’s love taught her that abundance and happiness can exist without pain.

TAWVN shares her thoughts on the mechanics of joy, abundance, and goodness.
