The inner detail. Unlocks all of this incredible potential. This incredible precipice walk. Brick by brick. Fun to keep figuring it out. Go again. Vibrate air. Moment in time. A show around the corner. All ties in. Peanut butter and jelly. A whole thing. Make it work with whatever. Part of the process. Just made stuff and kinda kept doing. Build a community around what you’re doing in the arts. Visualize a signal effects chain. Latitude. Awesome feeling to hear that song. Making sure it all works and is organized. Sorta duality. About parallel processing. This common denominator. ➗

Use the traditional concert layout to open your mind to new ways of creating and experiencing music. Paint with sound, experience the depth, and notice the techniques artists use to create in three dimensions.
The visual art world has a longer history of this than recorded music, so borrowing some of their concepts helps a lot!

Primary kind of knobs. It be fun to make, and it be fun to explore. The amount of presence. Psychoacoustic signaling. Almost in a synesthesia type way. A spotlight. A set of transformations. Place and segment. Splashes of color. Obscura. To disambiguate. Creates depth. We do now. Opens up some doors. A lot of vectors. This depth of field. Frequencies are living. The defining set of resonances. 🔦

Invent things instantly. It’s all happening now. Inferences in between different languages. Chaining from one to the next. That interdisciplinary thing. Constantly in conversation with this tool. Opening up doors for that which is imperfect. Embodied creativity. Start to get a sense. The frequency of the standing wave. Wide and expansive. A vibrating column. Building on similar things. That embellishment tradition. As people. An intuitive understanding, an embodied understanding. The coolest thing ever. Easy to keep going. Forever value. All the cool flashy stuff that’s fun. Basically all of these flutes. Hollow sticks with holes. The cool leaves. Calmer, more intentional, more intelligent person. Learning ornamentation. All the different notes. A woodwind generalist. Time plus sound. ༄

Being glue and being transparent. Able to bend. Held very well constant. Blend of hammer-ons and pull-offs. Can still reach. A defining point. So approachable. That authentic nature. A celebration of life. Has the energy. A really cool way to do it. Swagger and time and articulation. Just enough funk. Use skill to speak. The perceptual effect. Emotional arc and interest. That’s pretty cool. Through this lens. Give that reason. Perceptual reality. Respecting the audience. Able to switch. Has a launchpad. A compressive effect. It rips. That whole energy presses through the entire record. Recapitulation. Just kinda in the air. Keeping the groove going, providing the backbone. 𓀗

Find out what actually makes a top music supervisor tick. How he discovers. What he loves. And also learn what goes into this wild job!
Mike’s one of the best (and kindest) in the business. Sync is how musicians make a lot of their money now, but it’s often a black box. There’s no one that shares wisdom so freely as Mike — a great guy who truly loves music!
Since joining Droga5 in 2016, Mike Ladman founded and developed the Music Department managing music and audio capabilities across the agency and client roster. During this time, Mike has helped lead the agency to win over 90 music and advertising industry awards, notably 1 sports Emmy, five Cannes Lions, two D&AD Pencils, four Clios including the Grand Music Clio, eight AMP awards, 2 Guild Of Music Supervisor Awards, a Ciclope award among others, across Droga5 clients such as Google, The New York Times, Facebook, Hennessy, Levi’s and others. He has created and supervised music across global campaigns including work for the Super Bowl, Olympics, Grammy’s Oscar’s, Emmy’s, and Presidential Elections. In 2018, Mike was named one of Billboard's Top Branding Power Players. He has been an international music delegate around the world at music festivals and conferences in Denmark, Amsterdam, Israel, Brazil, Mallorca and more. Prior to joining Droga5, he was a Music Producer at McCann for nearly seven years, where he provided music for clients, such as Microsoft, the United States Army, Verizon, MasterCard and more, across the agency’s roster. Mike received his first film credit managing the music supervision for an indie film, Tracktown, which premiered at the LA Film Festival in 2016. In his free time he DJ's under the alias DJ PuppyHiccups and produces music under many aliases with lots of collaborators.

Double tap and dive a little bit deeper. Have the momentum. Awesome and weird and wonderful. And the consistency. In the zone. To figure out a thing. That’s the magic. Contributing to that joy. Sprinkle on something. It’s like, relax. If all we have is time. It was everything. It was wild. Find that new shirt. Kick off this whole cycle of feeling good. Wanna do cool stuff. Figure out what’s the best approach. Kinda rinse and repeat. The structure and the changes within a song. Chasing the dragon. Ideate. Transference. Aware. All of that. Chasing that thing. Keeps that carrot. A song can unlock that. The creative vibe. Can do this. Listen to everything. The consistency thing. That can endure. A great song plus time. Some cooler direction or genre. Coalesced into this moment. Being in the record store. It sounds strange now. Back into the show. Is when it’s really music is telling the story, A bunch of things in play. Cool crate digger. Recontextualized and repurposed and reimagined and brought to life. Hit the airwaves. Boom. A high-wire act. 🌉

What makes a sub-genre? Should an artist stick to what they're known for? Is it a burden to invent a genre?
I just got back from a Cro-Mags show, had a great time, and have a lotta takeaways about dance, movement, and how limiting (yet valuable) labeling music can be.

Mechanisms at play. This ephemeral intangible thing. Drifting in between dream and reality. Cuts both ways. The collection of musical thought into physical mediums. The ways that they interact. Wrapped up in the other. Different ways of classifying. It evokes something else. It’s own sort of inspiration. A powerful force in both directions, Dance with it. The map. The levers that are like really cool. Coextensive. A species of classifiers. Unabashedly of the body. This branch. That analytical processing of organizing and sorting. All of this different stuff. A subtle sway or a rhythmic blinking. 🗄️

The majority of bands don’t make it, and if they do, they don’t last. What’s the secret? How do you grow together, push each other, and keep innovating as a musical team? Mo Lowda & the Humble’s about to drop their fifth album, and in my opinion, it’s their best music yet. The whole band joins for this special episode on what it’s like to be a road-warrior, touring band in 2025, making records in studios on the journey along the way.

Feels like now. With a different mindstate. Lifts all the spirits. Stabilizes the molecules. Keep everybody involved. Like to hang. Nice, warm, sizzly. Just have fun. It’s a muscle. So much human connection in music. The more you know. Elements playing off each other. A benefit to creative constraints. Being purposeful. Closing that hole-loop. Ways to approach. Excitement, pleasure, and purpose all in one. A wave and an energy to it. Soaking it up. Mixing at the source. Meticulous about tones. Hash it out. Like a fun journey. Map stuff out. Important to end on a good note. Riding that energy, finding that energy. Beautiful places all around. Music is a natural rhythm. Feels good to be excited. Keep that going. Bombastic and organic. Momentum on a record. Pulling through. Continual and everlasting. Magic about that interpersonal. 🌌

Deciding where to "place" an instrument is one of the biggest decisions of a mixing engineer. Simply putting a guitar in the left, right, or center can completely change the vibe of a song.
But there are more ways to trick the brain than on! Let's explore delay-based, phase-based, and timbre-based panning options, and how their nuances can change the way the music hits!

Harley probably played CBGB more than anyone else alive. His impact on New York City music and the hardcore scene can’t be overstated. And neither can how difficult his life was. He was a kid living a brutal adult life, but music got him through it. Just like it gets so many through it.
I truly think after hearing about his journey, in his words, you’ll love music more. Because it’s everything, or, “almost everything.”

When you’re ready to give up, don’t. Something that’s like deeper. Something in it. A long run. Really powerful. Energies in play. The strength thing. Way to let the steam out. Whole feeling about everything. All of those things at the same time. The extra integrity. Around musicians. Actual ideas. On a musical scale of Godzilla. 🦖

Proceed. Onward to the next one. It’s time. Lessons learned. Finding the right means and ways. Not linear. A band of expression. To actualization. Writing towards that. Napping a lot, when you can. Reset the brain. Can do it. From this song. Gotta hit it. 🛠️🔩
