How much of our disappointment comes from what actually happened… and how much comes from what we thought should have happened?
In this episode of LOVE ONE LIFE, we’re talking about expectations: the ones we place on other people, the ones we put on ourselves, and the ones we inherit from family, work, society and the picture we’ve built in our own heads.
We talk about friendships, family, relationships, birthdays, work, success and those unspoken rules we sometimes expect other people to follow without ever telling them they exist.
We also get into the important difference between expectations, standards and boundaries. Lowering your expectations doesn’t mean accepting bad behaviour or lowering your standards. Sometimes it means looking at the evidence, communicating more clearly and accepting people for who they consistently show themselves to be.
We don’t entirely approach this the same way either. Fred is a big believer in limiting expectations. Drea believes communication has a big role to play. Somewhere between the two is a much healthier way of navigating disappointment.
If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking:
“They should have…”
“I thought I’d be further ahead by now…”
“I would have done that for them…”
“Why do they keep letting me down?”
…this episode might make you look at expectations a little differently.
LOVE ONE LIFE is about loving the one life you have today, not one day.

How much of your life are you missing because you’re too caught up in your own thoughts?
In this episode of LOVE ONE LIFE, we explore what it means to live in the present moment, drawing on ideas from Eckhart Tolle’s books and our recent experience of seeing him speak in London.
We talk honestly about the time we lose replaying old conversations, imagining future problems and creating scenarios that may never happen. We also discuss the effect this can have on our relationships, sleep and ability to appreciate what is happening around us.
Together, we look at practical ways to interrupt compulsive thinking, including focusing on the breath, questioning our second thought and becoming more aware of the stories created by the ego. We also explore four ways of experiencing life: resistance, acceptance, enjoyment and enthusiasm.
In this episode, we explore:

What if quitting isn't a sign that you've failed, but a sign that you're ready to move forward?
In this episode of LOVE ONE LIFE, Drea and Fred explore the idea of knowing when to quit - and why sometimes walking away can be one of the best decisions you make.
We talk about the difference between quitting because something is difficult and quitting because something simply isn't right for you, looking at jobs, careers, dreams, relationships and friendships through the lens of our own experiences.
Because quitting doesn't always mean giving up. Sometimes it means choosing yourself, making space for something better and giving yourself permission to move on.

Together, we discuss why so many of us ignore that feeling, how fear and expectation keep us stuck, and why learning to trust yourself could be the first step towards living a more intentional life.
We cover:

• Why you can feel grateful but still unfulfilled
• The grief that often comes with positive change
• How breathwork helps reconnect you with yourself
• Self-abandonment and living for everyone else
• Why self-trust is built one small decision at a time

When does helping someone become hindering them?
In this episode of LOVE ONE LIFE, Drea and Fred explore the delicate balance between supporting others and creating dependence. Whether it's family, friends, partners, children or even society itself, they discuss how good intentions can sometimes prevent people from developing the independence they need to thrive.
The conversation dives into difficult questions around boundaries, accountability, personal growth and self-reliance. They also examine the role of societal expectations, financial dependence, control, government support systems and why true empowerment often comes from encouraging people to stand on their own two feet.
If you've ever struggled with saying "no", felt responsible for solving other people's problems, or wondered whether your help is actually helping, this episode offers plenty of insight and reflection.
