Love Part I: Certitude

Listen Later

In which your host comes over all Gallic and recites a poem en français in honour of St Valentine's Day. Paul Éluard was a French poet and one of the founders of the Surrealist movement. He lived a complicated life marked by sickness and war, but succeeded in producing a great many well-loved poems. 'Certitude' is a simple ode to romantic love, made all the meltier in its native tongue.

A crude, experimental reading from a non-French speaker, to be sure, but as the saying goes: "On ne fait pas d'omelette sans casser d'œufs!"
