  • Strange and Difficult Roads | Good Shepherd Sunday

“It is likely he will lead you by strange and difficult roads.” -who knows

“The final question I will leave with you is this:

Are Christians the masters of Christianity,
    deciding what it should be?
Or is Christ who, through his Spirit,
takes hold of you and leads you
where you do not want to go?” (Cardinal Lustiger)

    “Here I am Lord,

    Here is my body,
    Here is my heart,
    Here is my soul.
Grant that I may be big enough to reach the world,
    Strong enough to carry it.
Pure enough to embrace it without wanting to keep it.
Grant that I may be a meeting-place, but a temporary one,
A road that does not end in itself, because everything to be gathered there,
everything human, must be led to you.” (Michael Quoist, Prayer on a Sunday Night)

  • The Seriousness of Life & Going Forward with Jesus | Palm Sunday 2024

God speaks to each of us as he makes us,

then walks with us silently out of the night.

These are the words we dimly hear:

You, sent out beyond your recall,

go to the limits of your longing.
    Embody me.

    Flare up like a flame

and make big shadows I can move in.

Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror.

Just keep going. No feeling is final.
    Don’t let yourself lose me.

Nearby is the country they call life.

You will know it by its seriousness.

    Give me your hand.

    Book of Hours, I 59

  • St. Patrick: A Saint for Our Times | 3/17/24

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! He’s my confirmation saint and an amazing saint!

So I’ll never stop giving thanks to my God, who kept me faithful in the time of my temptation. I can today with confidence offer my soul to Christ my Lord as a living victim[Nota]. He is the one who defended me in all my difficulties. I can say: Who am I, Lord, or what is my calling, that you have worked with me with such divine presence[Nota]? This is how I come to praise and magnify your name among the nations all the time, wherever I am, not only in good times but in the difficult times too. Whatever comes about for me, good or bad, I ought to accept them equally and give thanks to God. He has shown me that I can put my faith in him without wavering and without end. However ignorant I am, he has heard me, so that in these late days I can dare to undertake such a holy and wonderful work. In this way I can imitate somewhat those whom the Lord foretold would announce his gospel in witness to all nations before the end of the world. This is what we see has been fulfilled. Look at us: we are witnesses that the gospel has been preached right out to where there is nobody else there! (To the end of the world)
