  • LVF S2E3: Michala Glassford - A Chapter of the Life of Michala Glassford

I first met Michala in the summer of 2018. I was coaching bootcamp workouts for a project entitled The True Nature Project for youth of the Oasis Skateboard Factory alternative secondary school.

My goal was to provide one passionate at-risk youth with complimentary personal training sessions when the project finished. As Michala was exceptionally passionate, I offered the sessions to her.

We began the program with an initial consultation. As I inquired on Michala's health history, she began to speak on her extraordinary past of hardship and prevail -- I was speechless.

Although Michala's story has many aspects of suffering and perseverance, we only had enough time to go over her experiences of homelessness. A few of the topics we cover include:

    • How past trauma and depression affected her attitude and behavior
    • The experience of being sexually assaulted
    • Reconciling a relationship with parents
    • How those around her reacted to her testimony of assault
    • Endeavoring to find a room in Toronto
    • The influence of having toxic roommates
    • How the teachers of the Oasis Skateboard Factory aided her

  • LVF S2E2: On Life, Religion, and Self-Awareness With Nsuani Baffoe

I have been a personal trainer for a few years now, and have met many inspiring individuals with powerful stories of struggles, failure, and prevail. As Nsuani is a personal trainer, fitness coach, and Regional Manager for GoodLife Fitness, located in Downtown Toronto, I had the opportunity to work under one of the managers he mentored.

Nsuani is one of those who I am very grateful to have crossed paths with -- a powerful, honorable man who seems to have been born a leader.

For this episode, I was expecting Nsuani to speak solely on cultivating discipline to overcome life's hardships. Instead, Nsuani spoke with charisma and vulnerability as he opened up about his life from different perspectives.

I have been fortunate enough to hear Nsuani lecture on different topics on life and entrepreneurship in the past, but this episode of the podcast is quite special.

Few of the topics Nsuani and I speak about in this episode are:

    • The influence his parents had on his go-getter mentality
    • His devotion to Christianity, which he cultivated during his time in the US
    • The meaning Nsuani found in religion
    • Nsuani's advice for youth
    • The experiences of people of color living in downtown Toronto

    Enjoy!

  • LVF S1E7: Krista Moore - Seekers of Love, Part One

In episode seven, I interview an amazing woman who has been a huge catalyst in my spiritual journey, Krista Moore.

Krista is many things, including a certified Consulting Metaphysical Hypnotist, certified Spiritual Director, yoga teacher (RYT200), as well as a spiritual Channel.

As a Channel, Krista connects to the Angelic Realm to deliver messages of wisdom and healing to her clients. As opposed to a psychic, Krista does not give her interpretation of messages during her channeling. She only delivers messages as she receives them. A psychic supposedly receives visions, then interprets them.

I have seen Krista for Channeling four times now. Not only to receive messages, but also to chat with Krista and listen to her wisdom. She has been a major voice of wisdom in my life for the past few months and I couldn't resist the urge to have her on LVF.

The topics we speak on include:

    - Is there a higher purpose for experiencing trauma?

    - Seeking meaning in suffering

    - Krista's thoughts on death and the afterlife

    - Defining healing

    - The reprogramming of one's mind

It is a huge honor to have Krista on LVF, I hope you all find as much meaning in this episode as I have.

  • LVF S1E6: Doctor Who - The Psychedelic Adventures of Doctor Who, Part Two

The Psychedelic Adventures of Doctor Who, Part Two

"Is this podcast called love and fear because all decisions are based off of love and fear?"

    Doctor Who

    "Yep."

    Allister

The name of the interviewee has been removed to protect his identity. In the Show Notes I will refer to the interviewee as Doctor Who.

Doctor Who is a popular science fiction television show, produced by BBC, debuted in 1963.

For episode five and six, I interview a man who's done ayahuasca about a dozen times -- let's call him Doctor Who.

Ayahuasca is an Amazonian entheogenic drink, composed of multiple plant ingredients. The drink is used in spiritual ceremonies as a medicine for healing on various levels of one's being. An effect of ingestion is mild to extreme hallucinations, comparable to that of psychedelics such hallucinogenic mushrooms and LSD.

Doctor Who began participating in ayahuasca ceremonies in 2015. Although he was never diagnosed with depression or anxiety, Who had an unhappiness in his soul, to the point where he became fearful of leaving his apartment.

Three years later, Doctor Who is an outgoing, compassionate individual -- he gives credit to his ayahuasca experiences for becoming the man he is today.

In part one, Who primarily speaks on his first ayahuasca ceremony. In part two, he speaks on the other dozen or so ceremonies; as well as experiences with psychedelics.

Prior to listening to episode five and six, I would suggest watching the two pieces below, which provide a brief introduction on ayahuasca. The first by Vice, the second by AsapSCIENCE.

Names stated in the episode have been removed to protect the identities of the individuals mentioned.

Episode four, part one, the story of Maheen.

Maheen is a brilliant and ambitious young woman. A student of Justice Studies and active in the student union of the University of Guelph Humber, Maheen is on a path of impact and change on a grand scale.

Although, Maheen's extraordinary future is fueled by a past of hardship.

In this episode, Maheen speaks on the early years of her journey. She opens by speaking on the excitement of moving to Canada from Dubai, and then her spiral into depression. Influenced by many factors such as: dealing with dual identity, the tribulations of an injured parent and death of a loved one, being surrounded peers suffering depression, and much more.

As she tells her story, Maheen gives us an invaluable perspective into the life of a teenaged immigrant girl who is suffering depression. Also, the perspective of one engaging in self-harm and suicidal ideation.

I'd like to again thank Maheen for sharing such a powerful and deeply emotional story.

I know I will not be the only one impressed by the strength and humor Maheen carried throughout the episode.

  • LVF S1E2: Allister and Dylin Part 2 - Love, Fear, and the Streets
    Allister and Dylin Part Two

In episode two of the LVF Podcast, I interview Dylin Leonard, an aspiring creative in the fashion industry (among other things).

For almost two hours straight, Dylin had the courage to give us a valuable perspective of growing up in Rexdale, a north-west district of Toronto (north of Etobicoke). As a youth, Dylin lived in an impoverished neighborhood in Rexdale with a significantly high crime rate. In other words: the hood.

We cover many topics in this episode, including: how fear was used against Dylin, homeless youth, drug use, discovering and defining love as a young black man.

  • LVF S1E1: Allister and Dylin Part One - Why Love and Fear?

    Trigger Warning:

In this episode, I use the example of domestic abuse to define true love and false love as described by Dr. Gary Chapman, author of The Five Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts.

Domestic abuse is a very complex issue that many individuals suffer, whether direct victimization or witnessing abuse of another. I sincerely apologize for the simplification of the issue for the points above. Please see the list of resources below for more information on domestic abuse.

But, in this episode of the LVF Podcast, I am interviewed by Dylin Leonard, an aspiring creative in the fashion industry. Dylin has a powerful story of perseverance over fear that we will cover in Part Two.

We define love and fear, true love and false love, cover examples of love and fear in our lives, challenge the stereotype of masculinity, and much more.

  • LVF S1E3: Catie Fenn - Lessons From a Spiritual Smackdown

In episode three of the LVF Podcast, I interview Catie Fenn. Catie is a retired lawyer, spiritual coach, and public figure. Catie's spiritual coaching practice is based on redirecting people from the voice of fear in their minds and re-focusing them on the wisdom in their hearts. She also leads an ongoing workshop entitled Goddess Circle with the mission of working with women to re-ignite their inner power, through cultivating love.

During the interview, Catie spoke primarily how she developed the ability to listen to the voice in her heart to receive the wisdom she needed after she experienced a major breakdown – a spiritual smackdown in her words.

The smackdown came on February 1st, 2014. Catie had been living the Torontonian version of the American dream (law career on Bay Street, condo around the corner), but had also been running away from the truth that she wasn't happy and felt deeply disconnected from herself.

Listen as Catie and I speak on the ability to surrender, the ability to listen to one's heart, and how self-limitation comes from externally-instilled fear.

I am so honoured to have Catie on LVF and know she will help inspire you to you choose love over fear.

I would highly suggest completing Catie's Soul Map. There is so much valuable content in the Soul Map, especially her Clarity Questions. These questions will force you to be abruptly honest with yourself regarding different aspects of your life, and facilitate necessary action steps for self-improvement.
