  • What are the Doshas in Ayurveda? with Bija Kerri Repta

It always feels like a warm hug when I’m in the presence of this episode’s guest, Bija (Kerri) Repta and I’m sure you’ll feel it too. Bija leads DevaTree’s Faculty Mentored Program, Down Dogs & Doshas: An Integrated Approach to Ayurveda & Yoga.

In this episode, we get right into Ayurveda and the doshas and how we can harness the properties of our elemental make-up to ease our day-to-day and move through

life in a more harmonious way. Bija not only gives us practical ways to implement the doshas into our lives right now, but she reflects on the personal changes she’s witnessed in herself and in her relationships with others. It was fascinating to hear her talk about how the doshas can help us navigate conflict with co-workers and loved ones!

We learn that we’re always in a state of balancing—and through discovering our prominent Doshas we can have a deeper understanding of our physical, emotional and

spiritual bodies. With this understanding, we can begin to offer ourselves and others forgiveness, compassion, and embrace who we truly are.

    Key Takeaways:

o  How Ayurveda is a lifestyle of embracing who we are, and how it can help us understand ourselves and others.

o  The characteristics of the 3 doshas, and how to discover your dominant dosha(s).

o  Why ayurveda is often called a “sister-science” to yoga.

o  How doshas can be applied to the seasons, the time of day, and the current season of your life. How to use the doshas to bring yourself back to balance.

o  How to balance ourselves by following the rhythms of nature. Why protecting our peace is even more important in the heat of summer!

o  How Ayurveda has impacted Bija’s relationship

with herself and how it’s helped her become more forgiving and compassionate with herself.

o  How understanding Ayurvedic practices has

impacted her relationship with co-workers, friends, and even her own children.

o   Ayurvedic prevention techniques that help

avoid heighten states of stress and irritability.

o   How Bija let go of her perfectionist tendencies, realizing it was coming from a feeling of lack, and always having something to prove.

o   How the DevaTree community helped her overcome the fear of not being enough and gave her the courage to say YES to things that truly bring her joy.

  • Letting Our Guard Down Through Sacred Chant with Brenda McMorrow

It is with such gratitude that I’m sharing the conversation I had with Canadian Devotional Chant artist, Brenda McMorrow. She teaches Kirtan Academy: Bhakti Heart Fire,

    DevaTree’s Faculty-Mentored Self-Study program.

In this episode, we chat about the inspiration behind her 6th mantra music album, Ceremonia Del Amor and how Indigenous ceremonial practices have influenced its creation. Brenda alludes to la mezcla–Spanish for blending or mixing–of the natural world and one’s inner world, our true nature. She shares the moment she fell in love with kirtan, a call and response singing of mantra, and the instant knowing that this heart-opening practice would forever change the course of her life.

If you’re intimidated about chanting or participating in a kirtan experience, let this discussion act as reassurance that we all have a singing voice–regardless of whether we’ve been told otherwise.  When we come together in devotional chant with our unique voices, the energy transcends time and space.

    Key Takeaways:

o   What happens when we dare to go to the edge of our comfort zone, taking good little risks? Could what’s happening inside be imagined as excitement instead of nerves?

o   How to follow our creative impulses when they reveal themselves and how deepening into a quiet space can help ignite creativity.

o   How chanting helps us bring down our walls, let our guard down, and relax into the moment.

o   Do time and space really exist? How the profound connections we can make with each other online suggest that our collective energies transcend space and time.

o   Do we really need to return to our true nature—or is it impossible to be separated from our true self?

o   Why the concept of not singing (whether we think we can or not) is a cultural construct.

o   My experience sharing kirtan with my daughter Phoebe when she was in utero.

o   What energies are we calling in when we chant Om Namah Shivaya? How this chant has been pivotal on

    Brenda’s career path.

o   How Brenda prepares for a three-month tour, and how the creative process led Brenda to create her latest

album, Ceremonia Del Amor, a nature-inspired fusion of Latin American medicine songs and Sanskrit mantra.

  • What Are You Attached To? with Kristi Corlett

In this episode, I’m joined by long-time friend of DevaTree, the incredible Kristi Corlett. Kristi’s a yoga instructor, shamanic practitioner, author, and kirtan musician. But just like you and I, she can’t only be defined by what she

    does.

We all have our current roles and passions, but aren’t we so much more? Aren’t we ever-becoming? And why do we have such an attachment to how we define ourselves? Kristi shares the process of her shamanic journey work and how tapping into this practice can help us answer some of these big questions.

In our conversation, Kristi shares how she was led to meditation, yoga, and shamanic journeying and how they’ve played an immense role in her healing. She talks about the empowerment that comes from working with challenges and how stillness can help us germinate our potential. She shares the lessons she’s received through her off-grid lifestyle, how it isn’t always easy, and our interconnection to all that is.

    Key Takeaways:

o   What am I attached to? And what happens if I loosen my grip?

o  How shamanic journeying can reveal answers to us, and how it answered a question that I had about my motherhood journey.

o  How Spirit can show us when we’re taking life too seriously, or when we’re being too hard on ourselves or others.

o  How loving awareness dwells within each of us.

o   How we all feel compelled to define ourselves by what we do.

o  The benefits of making an ally of the darkness.

    o  Practicing sovereignty over victimhood.

o  What can I change or shift so I’m suffering less?

o  What it means to truly simplify, and the pros and cons of living off-grid.

  • Have You Forgotten Who You Are? with Tamika Schilbe Cole

In this inaugural episode of Love Who You Are, I’m joined by DevaTree Co-Founder, therapist, author, meditation teacher trainer, and Emotion Code Practitioner, Tamika Schilbe Cole.

Are you feeling disconnected, stuck, or out of touch with your spirituality lately? Are you looking for more peace, connection, or synchronicity in your life? In this episode Tamika discusses how each of us are powerful, creative Beings with the power to speak to, and receive guidance, from our Higher Self. Tamika shares her meditation journey, resistance to meditation, and what her practice has evolved into. She talks about how positive risk-taking has helped her make progress, even at the scariest of times.

    Key Takeaways:

o   How a daily check-in with ourself (and our Guides) can help us navigate personal struggles.

o   How speaking out loud when talking to our Guides (God, the Universe etc.) and setting up regular “dates” with them helps call in their support.

o   Why people resist meditation and how they can overcome it.

    o   The elusive meditation “slipstream.”

o   Even if we’re distracted in our meditation practice, positive effects from sitting in stillness can show up hours or even days later.

o   When meditation doesn’t seem to be working for you, don’t give up! Experiment with different forms and teachers until one resonates.

o   We are more than just this physical body. When we forget, our Guides can help us remember!
