You get out of church membership what you put in to it. We discover tonight in Romans 12 that when it comes to congregational life (including our worship and preaching), whatever we put into it, is what we get out of it. We are reminded that we are saved to serve in the church not merely to be 'canteen Christians' acting like customers and consumers only. Instead, when we love our church, our service in church should be motivated by mercy, gifted by grace and focused by faith. When we realise this and practice it, we can truly say about serving: "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ."
