Loving God is Who We Are | Word and Songs
with Sr. Lines Salazar, fsp
Our faith starts with the revelation that God is love and that we are created in his image and likeness—which is the same as saying that we are created to love. Love is who we are. We are authentically ourselves only when we are loving, and we really know God only when we are loving. As the 1st Letter of St. John puts it: “Whoever does not love does not know God for God is love (1 John 4:8). Believing this and enacting this gift of love involves risk, both in our interior life and in our relationships. When we turn everything over to God, we do not know where God will lead us and who we will grow to be. Think of Teresa of Avila, a busy little woman who became a great reforming saint. Think of Ignatius Loyola, beginning middle age by walking away from everything he had cherished. Think of the Lady Mary and her Son, Jesus of Nazareth. They all let love grow them into what they became.
