The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority launched a 10-month process to develop an action plan designed to remove carbon emission from the region's public transit by the end of the decade.

ArtsLight Reporter talks with The Cordial Eye's Co-Directors Anastaci Pacella and Mary George about their organization's Creative Futures Cape Cod Fellowship.

The results are in! In 2022 researchers from the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries and Atlantic White Shark Conservancy tagged 31 white sharks off the coast of Cape Cod. Last year's tagging included 18 sea trips between July and early November. Data from this long term project - which has so far tagged 277 individual white sharks in Cape waters - sees sharks arriving earlier and leaving later and provided other insights into the apex predator's patterns.

06 January 2023 -- YARMOUTH, MA -- Just two days before her inauguration on Jan. 5, newly-elected Mass. Gov. Maura Healey partnered with the Family Table Collaborative in South Yarmouth to package and distribute more than 500 food and produce bags to Cape Codders facing food insecurity. During the event, Gov. Healey and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll spoke about various issues facing the Cape and their administration's goals for addressing those challenges.

06 January 2023 -- BOURNE, MA -- Donna D. Buckley took office as the 35th Sheriff of Barnstable County on Jan. 4 and immediately followed through on a campaign pledge. Mere hours after her inauguration, Buckley signed a letter terminating the Barnstable County Sheriff Office's 287(g) agreement with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, commonly known as ICE. 287(g) agreements allow state and local-level public safety agencies to engage in certain federal immigration enforcement operations.

The National Audubon Society launched its 123rd annual Christmas Bird Count, with birders in the field from Dec. 14 to Jan. 5. is wide-ranging citizen science event compiles data from local bird counts across North, Central and South America. Cape Cod hosts four counts, including the Cape Cod count on the Lower Cape and Truro count on the Outer Cape.

This fall, Mass. lawmakers led by Sen. Julian Cyr and Rep. Dylan Fernandes updated legislation to allow regional airports to regulate rideshare services, such as Uber and Lyft, on airport property. While this provision will not impact Provincetown Municipal Airport, it may affect operations at Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Hyannis as soon as next spring.

Orleans voters narrowly approved a home rule petition at special town meeting this fall, which may lead to local restrictions on fertilizer use. Lower Cape TV speaks with Select Board member Michael Herman, who explains how the petition could become a law and why town officials sought to prohibit fertilizer in the first place.

On Dec. 8, Lower Cape TV held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house at our brand new studio at 5 Namskaket Rd. in Orleans. LCTV staff were joined by community members, supporters and collaborators to celebrate the opening of the new space.
