Federal and State Water Ministers have agreed to create a new inspector-general of Water in the Murray Darling Basin to police water rules and the implementation of the Basin Plan.

Our Executive Manager Customer & Stakeholders - Andrew Kremor talks about the Minister's for Water, Lisa Neville, announcement in regards the situation of the lower murray river water extraction.

Minister for Water Lisa Neville has directed Lower Murray Water and Goulburn Murray Water to refer all licence applications in the lower Murray region to her for assessment for the next 12 months.

No new licences for extraction will be issued or limit increases granted unless it can be shown that there will be no increased risks to the environment or entitlement holders.

Increased demand for water downstream has resulted in high summer flows, which are eroding important waterways such as the Barmah Choke and Goulburn River - while growth in extraction is also changing the risks of delivery shortfalls.

We recently partnered with the Swan Hill community to develop a beautiful mural which will be erected at our river pump station. The process was a truly collaborative process with the community driving the ideas and content for the artworks.

We were presented with $3.025 million in funding for the Sunraysia Modernisation Project 2. The project will see over 2,000 hectares of productive land being able to access the modernised irrigation network and builds on the success of the Sunraysia Modernisation Project works completed in 2016. A great investment in water infrastructure and the rejuvenation of our districts.
