In this last episode, we talk to 12th graders Zander and Lucas who both have a large amount of musical experience and each play a wide array of instruments. Having been in LREI musicals, plays, concerts, and coffee houses, Zander and Lucas bring to the table a unique view on music at LREI, as well as on performing music in general. On top of deepening our discussion on playlist creation, we also explore the contrasts in analyzing the creation and effect of music on the world. All throughout the episode, one important theme is the ways in which people's experiences with music differ, aside from just in genres. Whether you listen to music for nostalgia, for the technical abilities, to get in a certain mood, or just as background music, everyone has their own way of enjoying the organized sound vibrations that some call music. We hope you enjoy this final episode of our podcast and tune in next fall for season 2.
In this episode, we continue our conversation with Stacy, Gwen, and Noelle. Through discussions about identity and relationships with songs, we delve deep into the world of playlist creation, curation, and playlist listening. Making playlists for other people to create connections and shared tastes? We talk about that too! We also talk about different methods of listening to music and the variety of experiences that come from each type. We hope you enjoy this special two-part episode and tune in again soon.
Welcome to this special episode of LREI's Taste of Music, where your hosts interview the Raffo family, Stacy Dillon, the mother and lower school librarian, and her two daughters Noelle Raffo, in the 10th grade and Gwen Raffo in the 12th grade. This part one of two explores many topics, including generational music taste differences, how they affect each other, and how music relates to your emotions. We also go over the difference between listening to music on Spotify versus on records and how that affects the discovery of music and the creation of playlists. We hope you enjoy and please tune in to hear part two!
In this episode, we meet Joan Jubett, director of the musical and drama teacher at LREI. This episode is incredibly wide-ranging with a focus on dead artists and how that changes the perception of their music (especially through Jeff Buckley) but also goes into other directions. If you need any music recommendations in general, not just from the 80s or 90s, this is a great listen! We hope you enjoy!
In this episode, we meet Farin Weinger a fellow tenth grader at LREI. First, we explore one of their favorite songs, Hot Sugar by Glass Animals. Then, we go through other related music topics including how shaping what others view your music taste to be also changes people's views of you. And how what music you listen to relates to your personality. We hope you enjoy!
In this episode, we talk to Jazz teacher and musician Damon DueWhite. From hip-hop to musicals, Mr. D, as we call him, has experienced a lot in the realm of music. As the hosts weave the overall question, "How do music genres connect with each other," the interview dives deep into the evolution of early rap music, with artists like Notorious B.I.G., and ending off with a discussion on culture, this episode is a must-listen!
In this introduction to our podcast, we tell you a little bit about our own music tastes and experiences. Enjoy!
