DC Spotlight September 16, 2026: Absolute Green Arrow’s Big Twist, End of Life Gets Wilder & Can Superman Save Everyone?
The Comic Source
Jace and Rocky break down all 15 DC releases for the week of September 16, 2026. Deathstroke: The Terminator #7 shifts the spotlight to Adeline Kane, using flashbacks to explore the already-dysfunctional foundation of her relationship with Slade while Doctor Ivo offers her a mysterious new power. A new arc kicks off Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #55, pairing Poison Ivy with Ra’s al Ghul as they assemble a new group of Four Horsemen while Jace praises the cleaner look of Adrián Gutiérrez’s art under Vicente Cifuentes’ inks. The Bad Seeds crossover disrupts Selina’s ongoing story throughout Catwoman #91, though the continued focus on her relationship with Carmine Falcone gives Jace and Rocky something worthwhile to latch onto. Amanda Waller’s increasingly brutal power grab drives Dark Knights of Steel II #3, especially the apparent murder of Lara, which provokes one of the strongest reactions of the entire episode. Absolute Cassandra Cain: The Shadow’s Hand expands Cassandra’s history with Lady Shiva, David Cain and the surviving League of Assassins while revealing a compassion that separates her sharply from her mother. Yara Flor leads the Titans back to the Esquecida for New Titans #39, where Static’s unreliable powers and characterization prompt sharply different reactions from Jace and Rocky. Blüdhaven gets dragged into Bad Seeds during Nightwing #142 through the tragedy of a former Gotham resident, even though Jace would rather Dan Watters’ regular storyline had continued uninterrupted. Kyle Starks and Steve Pugh keep the absurdity and emotion working side by side throughout End of Life #8, as Eddie’s captivity, Little Cock’s torture and one very unexpected return make it one of the week’s standouts. Lobo’s trip back to Czarnia turns into a trap during Lobo #7, launching “The Last Death of Lobo” while Jorge Corona’s darker, more visceral artwork earns especially strong praise from Rocky. Joe Kubert: 100 Years — A Life in Covers becomes a celebration of Kubert’s ability to tell a complete story through a single image, even as Jace objects to the omission of his beloved Star Spangled War Stories #138. Verity Pennyworth becomes unexpectedly important to Detective Comics #1113 when she uncovers the lethal flaw in Commissioner Savage’s planned herbicide, while the backup introduces the new villain Rhetoric. The return to Wonder War gives Wonder Woman #37 a major Diana-and-Steve reunion and gorgeous Daniel Sampere artwork, though Jace feels the emotional payoff is muted and the issue functions mostly as setup. Superman Unlimited #17 pushes Kingdom of Zod closer to its conclusion as Lana Lang helps purge Superman’s kryptonite poisoning and he realizes there may be a way to save everyone else as well. Absolute Green Arrow #5 appears to finally answer the book’s central mystery before Pornsak Pichetshote delivers another twist that completely reframes what Jace and Rocky thought they understood. Kate Kane answers Batman’s call during Batwoman #7, returning to Gotham to deal with Vandal Savage’s forces in a Bad Seeds tie-in that Jace thinks is slightly more interesting than the book’s ongoing story, though neither host is especially enthusiastic. Jace and Rocky also cover this week’s collected editions before ranking all 15 books and revealing their Books of the Week.

The episode closes with 17 Final Order Cutoff books to watch before September 14. The recorded episode confirms the eight-for-eight result and DC’s seven-of-ten / full Top-5 sweep.

DC Spotlight September 9, 2026: Absolute Firestorm?, Aquaman’s Rogues Unite & Can Krypton Be Saved?
The Comic Source
Jace and Rocky break down all 9 DC releases for the week of September 9, 2026. Clayface: Celebrity Dirt #3 deepens the mystery around the two Basil Karlos, with Rocky praising the timely body-horror angle behind Lossomix while Jace finds the dual identities increasingly difficult to track. In Supergirl #17, Kara begins to understand Ursa’s desire to save Krypton, while the time-travel mechanics leave Jace questioning how much damage their very presence in the past may cause. Action Comics #1102 pushes the dilemma further as Ursa tries to convince a younger Zod that Jor-El was right, while Kara wrestles with whether saving Krypton—and billions of lives—could erase Superman and all the good he would do. Batman and Robin: Year One — Dynamic Duos Chapter Two leans into Dick Grayson’s banter with Alfred and his undercover infiltration of the juvenile gang, building toward an initiation that puts Catwoman directly in his path. Emperor Aquaman #21 sees Aquaman’s enemies overwhelm his allies in Atlantis while his disrupted return through the Blue brings him unexpectedly face-to-face with the avatars of the Red and the Green, Maxine Baker and Swamp Thing. Barbara Gordon: Breakout #5 continues to improve, but both hosts remain unconvinced by Barbara’s original undercover-prison plan as the mission to protect Vandal Savage’s enemies continues to unravel. Green Lantern Corps #20 juggles shore leave, the returning Darkstars, Katma’s unexpected connection to them and Guy Gardner’s search for the Predator while continuing to add depth to Guy beyond his old macho stereotype. Fury of Firestorm #6 brings Ronnie Raymond and Professor Stein to an emotional reckoning as they reunite to stop the Firestorm Matrix, with both hosts responding to the complicated father-son dynamic and the questions raised by the issue’s final transformation. Batman: Bad Seeds — Gotham Central #1 gives Jim Gordon real agency in a Batman-free Gotham mystery, while Christopher Cantwell’s take on Anarky turns the contradictions in his anti-system worldview into a compelling part of the character rather than a weakness. Jace and Rocky also cover this week’s collected editions before ranking all 9 books and revealing their Books of the Week.

Patrick Horvath Teases Samantha Strong’s NEXT Chapter | Beneath the Trees
The Comic Source
Jace catches up with Patrick Horvath at San Diego Comic-Con to talk about how Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees unexpectedly transformed his career and where Samantha Strong goes next. Patrick reflects on the runaway success of the series, using Samantha’s story to process different periods of his own life, and the surreal experience of seeing Samantha enter the wider comics world. He also discusses growing as a sequential storyteller, collaborating with creators whose work he has admired for years, and stretching new creative muscles with Archie in Hell. Finally, Patrick gives an early tease of Samantha Strong’s third story, which jumps ahead another ten years and explores a world fascinated by her crimes through law enforcement, true crime and a disturbing kind of fandom.

Susan & Tilly Bridges Rewrote STAR TREK VOYAGER’S Ending | Homecoming:
The Comic Source
Jace sits down at San Diego Comic-Con with writers Susan and Tilly Bridges to talk about Star Trek: Voyager — Homecoming and what it meant to essentially create a new ending for one of Star Trek’s most beloved series. Susan and Tilly discuss meeting through Star Trek fan fiction, how their very different personalities shape their writing partnership, why Star Trek’s hopeful and inclusive worldview remains fundamental to the franchise, and the challenges marginalized writers still face within the entertainment industry. They also break down the decision to bring Species 8472 back for Homecoming, expanding the species and its culture beyond what Voyager could show on television, the fan response to finally seeing the Voyager crew return home, and why five issues of reunions and hugs probably wasn’t going to satisfy IDW. Plus, they talk about writing for Star Trek Adventures, the unpredictable creativity of tabletop players, and their graphic novel Just Another Summer.

Why This Lois Lane Story Matters More Than Ever with Richard Ashley Hamilton
The Comic Source
Greg Rucka and Mike Perkins’ 12-issue LOIS LANE series feels remarkably different when read today. Jace is joined by SCOOP writer Richard Ashley Hamilton for an issue-by-issue examination of the acclaimed DC series and the questions it raises about journalism, truth and responsibility. Rather than simply recapping the plot, Jace and Richard use one moment from each issue to explore larger questions: What separates a journalist from an investigator? Is knowing something is true enough to publish it? Who keeps journalists accountable? Can revealing the truth sometimes cause more harm than concealing it? How does a reporter remain objective when the story becomes personal? And once the truth has been published, where does a journalist’s responsibility end?
The conversation also examines Lois Lane as a hero independent of Superman, the portions of the series that are heavily tied to DC continuity, Mike Perkins’ visual storytelling, Richard’s own approach to investigative storytelling in SCOOP, and the influence Greg Rucka and Lois Lane had on Sophie’s journey. Finally, Jace and Richard imagine what might happen if Sophie ever had the opportunity to work alongside Lois Lane herself.

Comic Source Weekly September 2, 2026 — Ed Brubaker Sued, Absolute Batman Hits 487K & X-Force Goes Fugitive
The Comic Source
The biggest comic-industry story of the week centers on serious allegations against Ed Brubaker stemming from the production of Amazon’s Criminal, with Jace breaking down what has been alleged, what is actually known, and why judgment needs to wait for more facts. Also this week, Absolute Batman #24 reportedly approaches an extraordinary 487,000 orders as Barbara Gordon becomes The Bat, DC reveals Batman Day 2026, Marvel transforms Inglourious X-Force into Fugitive X-Force, Indiana Jones discovers Marvel artifacts, and Jace looks at Disney’s Marvel acquisition 17 years later. Image and Ghost Machine bring updates for Ice Cream Man, Red Roots, Rook: Exodus, Geiger, Creature Corps, the Energon Universe, Spawn 77, Savage Dragon and Crowbound. BAD IDEA adds Seth Green to It Demands Sacrifice, launches Warbird, and unveils new The Detective covers, while Danny Trejo’s Year of the Devil, the Soulfire Timeline Omnibus and Netflix’s six newly optioned comic properties round out the news. Jace then makes eight What Hit predictions, counts down the Prana Top 10, goes 7-for-8 on last week’s predictions, and finishes with Final Order Cutoff—including the highly unusual fact that there are no Marvel single issues on FOC this week. That absence is explicitly called out in the finished recording as something Jace cannot remember seeing before.

DC Spotlight September 2, 2026 Superman Pushes Himself Too Far, Legion Hunts a Killer & Weird Al Embraces the Weird Description
The Comic Source
Jace and Rocky break down all 13 DC releases for the week of September 2, 2026. Batgirl #23 finds Cassandra Cain racing through a Gotham overrun by the Parliament of Trees while badly injured herself, determined to get a poisoned girl to the antidote that can save her life. Rather than advancing the larger Bad Seeds plot, the tie-in keeps the focus on Cassandra and her supporting cast, making the event feel more like the backdrop for a Batgirl story than an interruption of one. Batman #13 has Batman fighting his way through the GCPD to confront Vandal Savage, but the detour into Bad Seeds largely puts Matt Fraction’s ongoing Batman story on hold. There are entertaining moments of Batman tearing through corrupt officers and demanding they do better for Gotham, but very little actually happens and the momentum from the previous issue’s mystery is left waiting for the crossover to get out of the way. JSA #23 jumps into the largely unexplored years after the Justice Society was forced out of public life, with Wildcat, Hourman and Doctor Mid-Nite recruited for a secret Cold War mission behind enemy lines. The period setting and espionage premise immediately feel like a natural fit for the JSA, delivering one of the strongest issues of the run just as the series is approaching its end. 100 Bullets: The U.S. of Anger #3 remains frustratingly difficult to decipher three issues in, even for Rocky as a reader of the original 100 Bullets. The anger and division suggested by the title are certainly present, and the two hate-spewing podcasters provide one of the issue’s more recognizable ideas, but neither Jace nor Rocky can determine what Brian Azzarello ultimately wants the story to say. Absolute Green Lantern #18 sees Simon Baz and Agent Zero finally escape the strange space where they have both been trapped and emerge in front of Cameron Chase, who appears to know exactly what has been happening. After eighteen issues of deliberately opaque mythology surrounding the Absolute Spectrum, Manhunters and its different colors and concepts, Chase’s promise that “now we get the answers” offers the clearest indication yet that the series may finally start bringing its mysteries together. Absolute Superman #23 brings Superman’s relentless pursuit of Brainiac into conflict with Toyman and forces his absolute belief in the sanctity of life into one of its most difficult tests yet. Jason Aaron continues pushing a young Superman who believes he must save absolutely everyone, suggesting that his refusal to accept his own limitations may eventually become as dangerous to him as any villain he faces. Batman/Superman: World’s Finest — World’s Weirdest #1 pulls Batman and Superman into the wonderfully bizarre world of Weird Al Yankovic in a whimsical story built around a surprisingly sincere message: be yourself, be true to yourself and embrace whatever makes you weird. It’s far more fantastical than the type of story Jace usually gravitates toward, but the humor, artwork and genuine Weird Al sensibility make the concept work. Legion of Super-Heroes #1 begins with R.J. Brande’s dream of bringing young heroes from across the galaxy together surviving his apparent murder as Brainiac 5 and Matter-Eater Lad investigate what happened to him. Joshua Williamson and Hayden Sherman reinvent the Legion from the ground up while retaining recognizable pieces of its history, including Lightning Lad’s love of ancient Superboy comics, and use the mystery surrounding Brande to begin bringing this new generation together. Supergirl: Survived #4 has Kara and a young Kal-El spending much of the issue discovering what their Kryptonian powers can do beneath a yellow sun before encountering Brainiac 5, who may provide the means to finally continue their journey toward Earth. The story is heavily decompressed, but the relationship between Kara and Kal remains its strength while the increasingly unexpected assortment of DC concepts continues giving the series its own identity. Teen Titans #1 finds Jason Todd’s search for a child missing for nine days colliding with a group of young heroes conducting their own investigation into their missing friend. Proximity, Fair Play, Cheshire Cat, Wild Card and Eugene Choi aren’t actually a superhero team yet—the name Teen Titans began as little more than their online group chat—but their unlikely connection with Jason creates a distinctly modern starting point for Kyle Higgins’ new take on the concept. Deadman #4 sends Boston Brand toward Heaven demanding answers about why the souls he has been helping aren’t necessarily destined to stay there, only to receive an unexpected lesson about the value of giving someone even a brief moment of hope. The idea gives Deadman a renewed sense of purpose, but neither Jace nor Rocky feels the philosophical detour has enough to say to justify how far the series has moved from the character they know. Doom Patrol #1 introduces a broke Doom Patrol wandering from place to place taking whatever work they can get, including a seemingly mundane job searching for a missing cat. The bizarre visuals certainly fit the team’s reputation for weirdness, but the story offers little sense of direction or connection to the previous Doom Patrol run, leaving both Jace and Rocky disappointed by an opening issue that feels far less interesting than its characters should be. Finally, Superman: The Stranger #1 drops Superman into a Black Label world reminiscent of Depression-era America, delivering a visually striking reinterpretation whose gritty setting immediately distinguishes it from the main DC Universe. The artwork is the issue’s greatest strength, while the story itself feels familiar enough that Jace is waiting to see whether Wes Craig can push the concept somewhere more original as the series develops. Jace and Rocky also cover this week’s collected editions before ranking all 13 books and revealing their Books of the Week.

Steve Skroce joins Jace on The Comic Source to talk about TALES OF WONDER, his new creator-owned superhero series from Image Comics and Skybound. Two legendary comic creators whose friendship was destroyed by decades of bad blood suddenly discover that the superheroes and villains they created weren’t so fictional after all.
Steve talks about turning comic-book history, creator rivalries and convention culture into a larger-than-life superhero adventure, and why Galaxy Quest, Tropic Thunder and The Three Amigos helped inspire the tone. He also discusses writing and drawing the series himself, working with Skybound and editor Ben Abernathy, designing America’s Freedom Force, finding the voices of Stu and Jake, and balancing satire of the comics industry with a genuine celebration of the medium.
Plus, Steve discusses his experience working with creators including Brian K. Vaughan and reflects on why the real emotional heart of Tales of Wonder is friendship, collaboration and the possibility of getting a second chance.
TALES OF WONDER #1 arrives September 2, 2026 from Image Comics and Skybound.
