Clothing creates an environment, an atmosphere, an attitude. Because our nature is what it is, we are likely to be distracted from the beauty we ought to contemplate by the beauty we actually see. We should be dressed in such a way to draw attention to God, not ourselves.

You can say that you love God all you want, but merely keeping the commandments and keeping your Sunday obligation is not the stuff of which great saints are made. Keeping the commandments is not the only proof of loving God. How often do we think about God throughout our day? Throughout our week? Do you think of the Lord in a way that makes your heart melt?

Humility is foundational for all the other virtues. As we seek to know the will of God in this world, we must do it with humility, or we will surely fall to pride.

Weigh your actions, your motives, and your intentions honestly and humbly. If we are not following St. Paul's advice in today's readings (Rom. 12, 16-21), we are no doubt committing various sins against charity, and some quite possibly mortal.

Lent, among other things, is a time of conversion. There are extraordinary graces available during the seasons. Lent is a time for each of us to convert as well. It's not just a time when we ramp up our penances. It's a season to turn to the Lord. We are going to talk about what that means.
