Luke 19:28-48 - Jesus, the Perfect King, Arrives in Jerusalem [the City of Kings] | 09.15.24 Weekend Message
As Jesus climbed the Mount of Olives on his last trip to Jerusalem, he stopped at a point that overlooked Jerusalem.
He was moved to tears as he said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes." Luke 19:42, NIV
Jerusalem literally means "City of Peace." But there was no peace in Jerusalem.
The people not only made bad choices, they made monumentally bad choices that separated themselves from God and would ultimately bring their complete ruin at the hands of the Roman government.
We also have an incredible propensity for making bad choices. We think we know what we want out of life. But the reality is that we often don't even know what will make us happy.
As a result, patterns start to develop. Bad choices are followed by momentary enjoyment. Enjoyment is short-lived and followed by feelings of shame and guilt. Don't even get me going about the long-term fallout and misery which is usually followed by more bad choices.
This weekend at CrossWalk Church, Jesus brings peace to a city that desperately needed it. The people did have peace; at the top of their lungs they yelled and screamed,
"Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
