On the last night of his life Jesus celebrated the Passover meal with his disciples.
During the meal Jesus took a piece of unleavened bread and gave it to his disciples. He said, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me."
After the supper he took a cup of wine and said, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood which is poured out for you."
With these words Jesus instituted a meal that the Christian church has been celebrating for nearly 2,000 years. We call it the Lord's Supper or Holy Communion.
This weekend at CrossWalk Church, we continue our Investigating Jesus message series; we follow Jesus and his disciples to the upper room where Jesus celebrates his last supper.
We call the Lord's Supper a sacrament. This means that:
- Jesus is the one who instituted it.
- It has an earthly element we can taste and touch.
- It offers and grants the forgiveness of sins and all the blessings that come along with it.
Discover the certainty and intimacy the Jesus gives in the Lord's Supper.
