Luke describes the start of Jesus' preaching ministry with these words: "Then he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he taught the people. They were amazed at his teaching, because his words had authority." - Luke 4:31-32, NIV
Another way to say that Jesus spoke with authority is to say that Jesus, "knew what he was talking about."
We can all relate to talking to someone who doesn't know what they are talking about. It can be a friend at a party who is getting their facts mixed up or a telemarketer who pretends to know everything there is to know about the solar industry.
Jesus was different. He was able to share the deep, mysterious truths of God in such a simple way that even a child could understand them. Jesus' powerful words were honest and true and commanded respect and consideration.
This week at CrossWalk Church we will continue Investigating Jesus as we walk through the gospel of Luke, and consider the authority of Jesus' words and teachings. Listen for yourself to the authoritative words of Jesus.
