"Jesus answered them, 'It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.'” Luke 5:31-32
Jesus has a ditch on both sides of the road.
On the one side, he has the religious elite. They are the Pharisees, the teachers of the law, the church leaders, the pastors, and the individuals that church people look up to. The problem is that they are self-righteous and arrogant. They have no use for Jesus or forgiveness or mercy. They don't think they need it.
On the other side, Jesus has the sinners. They are the tax collectors, the prostitutes, the NOT church people, they are the social and moral outcasts. They are very interested in Jesus. But they are a mixed bag. Some are living with regret and pain, others seem to enjoy their poor moral choices.
But the religious leaders make it clear. They don't like Jesus or his disciples hanging out with these people let alone letting them into the church family.
This week at CrossWalk Church we will continue Investigating Jesus as we walk through the gospel of Luke. We will follow Dr. Jesus as he brings healing to those who are sick with sin.
In the verse above, Jesus says that he is here to help sinners. But in Jesus' eyes there are not two groups of people, but one. All people are sick with sin. We need the healing and forgiveness that Jesus brings whether we realize it or not.
Join us this Sunday and let Jesus diagnose your spiritual condition and bring healing to your life.
