Have you asked anything of these questions about fasting or Lent?
- Should I give up eating meat on Friday during Lent?
- Should I give something up for Lent?
- Why don't our pastors wear robes, but other pastors do?
- People fasted in Bible times, should we be fasting now?
- How come Christmas is always December 25th, but the date for Easter changes every year?
For thousands of years, individuals have used suggested customs and habits that they feel will bring them closer to God.
But, over time, some of these customs can lose their meaning and become a bunch of meaningless rules.
It was no different during Jesus time.
This week at CrossWalk Church we will continue Investigating Jesus as we walk through the gospel of Luke. We will look at customs and habits and how they affect faith.
The most surprising part of the lesson is when Jesus says, "The Son of Man is Lord of Sabbath."
With these words Jesus is pointing to himself as the reason why we worship. It is in Jesus that we find rest in our relationship with God.
The quick answer for customs and habits is that if they direct us to Jesus, they can serve a useful purpose. If not, they need to go.
See how Jesus encourages us to adopt habits that direct us to him the rest he provides.
